Your regular American Joe, Rick Lagina, like many of us, had boyhood ambitions of solving mysteries, digging up hidden treasure, and being a hero.
After a lifetime of pursuing various ideas, he finally found the confidence and time to fulfill his aspirations and he began his endeavor to solve the Oak Island Mystery.
Pirates, the Holy Grail, the English Bard, and lots of swashbuckling all play their part in the Mystery, and Rick’s mission inspired the reality TV show The Curse of Oak Island.
The series follows him and his brother Marty’s travels as they hunt the haunted Oak Island in search of, what is commonly thought to be, buried treasure worth millions.
The boys stumbled across information about the Island when they were reading an issue of Reader’s Digest that included the narrative.
After a TV company approached the duo, requesting them to make a reality TV show about the Island, they began on the journey with two other treasure hunters.
The immensely popular show aired in January 2014 and is now on its sixth season.
To increase their chances of uncovering the Island’s riches, Rick and Marty sought the support of archeological and historical specialists, combined with high-tech gear and plain tenacity.

Rick Lagina: Career
It looks like before he took up a metal detector and shovel, Rick Lagina could not even be stopped by the likes of rain, sleet, or snow.
Originally working for the Postal Service of the United States in Michigan, Lagina was able to retire and pursue his lifetime passion.
According to the History Channel, Lagina has always been one to go all-in on something – he sees the world in black and white, and is cited as stating, “Once in, forever in!” That surely explains why the Lagina brothers never seem to give up.
And, as it turns out, Rick’s brother Marty had a rather interesting career before the show as well.

This was after they read an article on Reader’s digest that pointed out the possibilities of winning valuable treasure from the Curse of Oak Island.
It was claimed that pirates used to store away their wealth in one of the sites on the Island. The brothers then took it upon themselves to uncover these valuables.
With the help of Prometheus Entertainment, they moved on shoot their adventures and make a series.
Though it was not simple to secure the necessary licences required for them to begin production in Canada, they succeeded to and launched the reality show.
They also bought most of the land on the Island and currently own 78% of it. Together with a team of appropriate experts, Marty, his brothers and the other cast set out to hunt treasures in the island.
They have able to uncover, bone fragments, coins, platforms, human bone fragments and metal from pre-1795 among others.
So far, the Series is going well and has gained many views. According to TV By The Numbers, Curse of Oak Island is among the top 25 original cable shows among adults between the ages 18-49.
As Marty is both a cast and producer of the show, his remuneration must be good. Even if he may put some back into the show, it has led to his current wealthy status.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t still be in the show if he wasn’t getting his money back.
Apart from Marty and his siblings, there is a significant likelihood that the series Curse of Oak Island also receives backing from other investors, since most reality shows of a similar sort do.
If that’s the case, their investment and contribution propels the series even higher and improves its income.
Marty Lagina: Career
Before entering into the realm of show business, Marty launched a firm, Terra Energy, in 1982. The corporation worked with the extraction of natural gas.
During the 1990s Terra Energy collected natural gas from Shale situated in Midwest.
The company brought in excellent returns and the zenith of it was when Marty sold it off, to a company called CMS Energy, for $58 Million.
Using the proceeds from the sale, he bought shares of Chartwell Properties, LLC and became a majority shareholder.
Still interested in the energy market, he then founded yet another company, known as Heritage Sustainable, that tapped into wind energy.
To date, it has continued to flourish and provide him a fair salary. The business hopes to build 60 Wind Turbines in Missaukee, Michigan.
If this strategy is successful, the company will be classified among the leading producers of wind energy in Mid -West.
He also owns another firm, Mari Vineyards. It is a winemaking business that he founded back in 1999. His family had been engaged winemaking for a long time.
Having witnessed how a winery is run and its profitability, Marty was motivated to start his own.
Though the company was not profitable during the initial years, it received its big break in 2006 when they started making a flagship bottle Row 7.
The company presently boasts of over 60 acres in Michigan. Though Marty is still involved of its major operations his son Alex conducts most of the work.

Marty Lagina: Engineering Jobs
An engineer is one of the titles Marty has to his name. According to Celeb’s Fortune, he undertook a Bachelor of Science degree course in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan Technological University and graduated in 1977.
Immediately after, he began studying for Juris Doctorate at the University of Michigan, in the field of law and graduated in 1982.
Before starting his businesses he had worked in a couple of engineering jobs. His first job was as a Petroleum Engineer at Amaco Production Company.
He later began working as an independent consultant engineer for various corporations.
Even though these jobs may not have earned him as much as his businesses do, the income he attained contributed towards him accomplishing his dreams.
