Upcoming Films Starring Sonakshi Sinha

After her debut performance in 2010’s Dabangg, Sonakshi had a breakthrough year in 2012, appearing in four movies. Her first movie of the year was Prabhudeva’s “Rowdy Rathore,” where she starred opposite Bollywood’s “Khiladi,” Akshay Kumar. Despite receiving mixed reviews upon release, the movie was a financial success, taking in INR 15.6 crores on opening day. Her subsequent film, directed by Shirish Kunder and titled Joker, was a box financial and critical flop. After that, she made an appearance in the commercially successful but critically derided film Son of Sardar, which was directed by Ashwin Dhir and starred Ajay Devgn. Although it received mixed reviews upon its release, Arbaaz Khan’s Dabangg 2 was a commercial success, capping out the actress’s busy year in style.

Sonakshi’s stellar 2013 was off to a wonderful start with a role in Lootera with Ranveer Singh. Despite the movie’s lackluster box office performance, Sonakshi won plaudits for her portrayal of Pakhi, a small child suffering from tuberculosis. The other movies she was in this year, ones with Shahid Kapoor and helmed by Milan Luthra, Tigmanshu Dhulia, and Prabhudeva, all received bad to average reviews.

Sonakshi Sinha: Who Is She?

Sonakshi Sinha, an Indian actress who appears in Hindi films, was born on June 2, 1987; her name is pronounced.

Following her work as a costume designer for independent movies, she made her acting debut in the 2010 action movie Dabangg as Rajjo Pandey, for which she was nominated for the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. She became well-known for her roles as the male leads’ love interests in various action movies, such as Rowdy Rathore (2012), Son of Sardaar (2012), Dabangg 2 (2012), and Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty (2014), as well as for her appearances in a number of item numbers.

For her performance as a disturbed woman with tuberculosis in the historical drama Lootera (2013), Sinha won praise from critics and received multiple honors, including a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Actress.

Since then, she has starred in a number of critically panned movies, with the exception of Mission Mangal (2019), where she played a supporting role.

Sinha has dabbled with singing in addition to acting, starting with a song in her movie Tevar (2015). Her first song, “Aaj Mood Ishqholic Hai,” was published in 2015, and she has since performed in four movies, including “Rafta Rafta Medley,” which is on Yamla Pagla Deewana: Phir Se’s soundtrack (2018).

Sonakshi Sinha’s Early Years

Shatrughan Sinha and Poonam Sinha (née Chandiramani), both actors in movies, welcomed Sinha into the world on June 2, 1987 in Patna, Bihar. Her mother is a Sindhi Hindu, while her father is from a Bihari Kayastha household. Before joining the Indian National Congress in 2019, her father was a member of parliament for the Bharatiya Janata Party. Luv and Kush Sinha, her two (twin) brothers, are the oldest of Sinha’s three siblings. She attended Arya Vidya Mandir for her formal education before earning a degree in fashion design from Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackersey Women’s University’s Premlila Vithaldas Polytechnic.

Sonakshi Sinha’s Career 2005–2014: Achieving Breakthroughs

In 2005, Sinha began her career as a costume designer, creating the outfits for movies like Mera Dil Leke Dekho.
In the 2010 movie Dabangg, she made her acting debut alongside Salman Khan. It eventually turned into an all-time classic and the highest-grossing movie of 2010. In order to play a country girl, Sinha had to shed 3 kg. Reputable critic Taran Adarsh praised her performance, saying that “Sonakshi Sinha has a youthful appearance, exudes confidence, and gels well with Salman. Most significantly, she conveys the appropriate emotions without being overshadowed by the cast’s star-studded galaxies.” Sinha earned honors for her debut even though she didn’t release any movies in 2011. Among many others, these includes the Filmfare Award and the IIFA Awards.

Sonakshi Sinha at a Rowdy Rathore Event in 2012

2012 saw Sinha release four films, the first of which was Rowdy Rathore, starring Akshay Kumar and Prabhu Deva. The movie debuted to mixed reviews from critics, but it had a successful box office debut, earning approximately 150.6 million (US$1.9 million) on its first day, and went on to become a blockbuster. Nevertheless, Sinha’s ornamental role was criticized by writer Rajeev Masand, who claimed that she “seems to exist in this picture merely to have her belly constantly groped by Akshay Kumar.”

Her subsequent movie, Joker by Shirish Kunder, which also starred Akshay Kumar, was a box office failure and earned largely unfavorable reviews. Her third movie, Ashwni Dhir’s Son of Sardar, starring Ajay Devgn, earned mixed reviews from critics but did well financially. In spite of all the chaos, Sinha “endeavors to be pretty and exquisite,” according to NDTV critic Saibal Chatterjee. Despite being a huge commercial success, Arbaaz Khan’s Dabangg 2, the follow-up to her wildly successful first, received little appreciation from reviewers. In the Hindi version of Rise of the Guardians, Sinha also provided the voice of Tooth.

2014–present: Reversal of Sonakshi Sinha

Sinha at a Force 2 song launch event in 2016.
She costarred with Arjun Kapoor in Boney Kapoor’s 2015 adaptation of Okkadu, dubbed Tevar.
Rajeev Masand authored a review and stated: “Sonakshi Sinha has little to do in yet another South remake as another sultry damsel. She seems pleased to show up for a few dance performances and hang out while waiting for a man to save her.” Tevar was one of the worst disappointments of the year due to its poor box office performance. On December 23, 2015, Sonakshi released her first song, “Aaj Mood Ishqholic Hai,” in association with Meet Bros.

The next year, Sinha played an arrogant college student in the action-drama version of the Tamil film Mouna Guru, directed by AR Murugadoss, named Akira. Of all the 2016 films with a focus on women, Akira scored the strongest opening weekend at the box office. The movie made over 33+ crore at the box office after recovering 15.5 crore at the beginning, making it a median grosser. Later, she starred alongside John Abraham in Abhinay Deo’s action movie Force 2. The low-budget movie produced over 58.75 crore and was rated as an average grosser. Despite the fact that Sinha’s character was referred to as an unformed agent, several people praised her performance. “Sonakshi Sinha is convincing in the action parts she gets and ably supports John,” Bollywood Life said of her performance.

She appeared in the 2018 comedy spoof Welcome to New York alongside Diljit Dosanjh, Karan Johar, and other actors. The movie, which was the first to be based on an award show, was shot during the 2017 IIFA Awards. Sonakshi Sinha’s performance in the movie was heavily criticized, with Rajeev Masand of News 18 stating that she is “Not very humorous, regrettably,” since she comes off as excessive and out-of-place even in a production with such laughably low standards. On screen, she spends the most of her time contorting her face in Jim Carrey’s likeness, but without any of the same effects.

With barely Rs. 75 lakh in revenue on opening day, the movie was also a box office dud. The same year, Sinha co-starred as the title character with Diana Penty in the comedy Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi. The movie premiered on August 24, 2018. Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi was a commercial failure, just like her previous release.  Then, she made a special appearance in a song of Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se.

In 2019, she performed in a song ”Mungda” in comedy film Total Dhamaal.

She next starred in the period romance film Kalank with an ensemble cast including Aditya Roy Kapur, Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit, Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan. The film failed to perform well commercially. In 2019, Sinha was cast in drama film Mission Mangal, which featured an ensemble cast, including Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan and Taapsee Pannu. The project began filming in 2018, and was directed by Jagan Shakti. The film was a massive commercial success at the box-office, grossing over 200 crore on a budget of 30 crore, and received positive reviews from critics.

After that, she reprised her role in Dabangg 3 opposite Salman Khan, directed by Prabhu Deva.
