Born on October 6, 1978, Richard John Hatton is a former professional boxer from the United Kingdom who competed from 1997 until 2012. Since then, he has worked as a boxing promoter and trainer.
He won five world titles at light-welterweight and one at welterweight during his boxing career. According to BoxRec, Hatton is the fifth-greatest British boxer of all time and the eleventh-greatest European fighter of all time. He received the 2005 Fighter of the Year award from ESPN, The Ring magazine, and the Boxing Writers Association of America.
Hatton won the British light-welterweight title in 2000, then the WBU title the following year. From 2001 through 2004, he successfully defended the WBU title a record fifteen times. By winning the IBF, Ring, and lineal titles over Kostya Tszyu in 2005, he reached the apex of his professional career. Later on in the same year, he defeated Carlos Maussa to win the WBA (Super) title, making him the undisputed light-welterweight world champion.

Championships and won seven British titles. There was uproar when he was eliminated in the semifinals. Light-welterweight

In his second bout, Hatton competed at Madison Square Garden in New York as part of the undercard to Naseem Hamed vs. Kevin Kelley. Hatton won via technical knockout (TKO) in the opening round.
Soon, he was competing on the undercard of fights between top British boxers, such as the 1998 bouts between Carl Thompson and Chris Eubank for the WBO cruiserweight title. Hatton received the Young Boxer of the Year award from the British Boxing Writers’ Club in 1999. In a unification fight on November 26, 2005, Hatton defeated Carlos Maussa in the ninth round to claim the WBA light-welterweight championship. Hatton won the 2005 Ring Magazine Fighter of the Year award in December.
On March 29, 2006, Hatton renounced his IBF championship after declining to fight Naoufel Ben Rabah in a mandatory defense because he wanted to advance to the welterweight division.
