BESSEMER, ALABAMA: For 39-year-old Ricky Hamrick III and his daughter, 8, July 24 was meant to be a fun-filled day full of fond memories. Instead, in a horrifying turn of events, the young child saw her father’s passing.

With his little daughter in mind, Ricky Howard Hamrick III planned a fun Sunday outing that involved a drive from Cleburne County to Bessemer and a stop at Whataburger. But Ricky Hamrick also has some independent side projects in mind. According to investigators, Hamrick planned to sell two weapons to a buyer in Bessemer via Facebook Marketplace.

But when the gun buyers arrived at a Salvation Army thrift shop and fired three rounds into Hamrick’s automobile, everything went tragically wrong. The passenger seat of the car was occupied by Hamrick’s daughter. Hamrick was killed in the gunfire after taking a deadly headshot. Fortunately, though, his daughter was unharmed.

According to Lt. Christian Clemons of the Bessemer Police Department, “Unfortunately, he sold guns to somebody who ended their life, somebody that we consider a coward, somebody who is going to kill a victim while they’re sitting in their car.” “This shooting had no justification. We’re referring to vile, filthy, disgusting cowards.

A mother who hurried to the site after hearing the gunshots saved the young child who was getting ready to start third grade. The 8-year-old was taken care of by “the good residents of Bessemer,” according to Clemons, who spoke to the media. “They understood what occurred, heard the shots, came to her aid, took her into their home and waited for officers to arrive.”

It took everything in me not to cry in front of her, Kelli Brown, the person who saved the girl and kept her distracted until police got at the scene, told AL.com. I just couldn’t understand it. It was really unbelievable. Brown described the horrifying event, saying, “I heard a child screaming. She got out of the car and came around and, bless her heart, she didn’t want to leave her daddy. She was making every effort to remain with him. Brown added that when she opened the door, she discovered the blood-covered girl leaning over her dead father. Brown continued, “She was saying, ‘They shot my dad, I don’t want my dad to die.'” “There was nothing I could do but hold her.”
