Dominick Carisi Jr. won’t be leaving ‘SVU’ any time soon, most reports indicate. When Nick Amaro was temporarily demoted to patrol officer in season 16, then-Sergeant Olivia Benson asked for a “experienced, sympathetic Detective” to take his position. This is when Carisi makes her first appearance as a junior detective. Later in the season, after Amaro left the show, Carisi took his place as the leading man. He has served as an assistant district attorney since the 21st season.
A welcome diversion from “SVU’s” depressing storyline is provided by the relationship between Carisi and Rollins. Since 2005, Scanavino has appeared in hundreds of supporting roles in movies and on television, including The Good Wife, The Blacklist, and Deception (2008).
Scanavino appeared as minor criminal Johnny Feist in the 2005 episode “Diamond Dogs” of the NBC crime drama series Law & Order: Criminal Intent. In the 2009 episode “Just A Girl in the World,” he appeared as a guest on Law & Order as a suspect who worked as a graphic designer.
Scanavino took a break from acting in 2010 to pursue his passion for cuisine. Nick Amaro was temporarily demoted to patrol cop, and Sergeant Olivia Benson requested a “seasoned, sympathetic Detective,” prompting Carisi to join the precinct. Additionally, after Amaro left the SVU at the conclusion of Season 16, he replaced him as the team’s top man. He spent about a month in Brooklyn, two months in Staten Island SVU, and one week in Queens (before that, he was a patrol officer on Staten Island). He spent a few years working in the homicide division as well. Although his boisterous and combative demeanor has put him at odds with Benson and the others, he has demonstrated a talent for interrogations by convincing suspects to open up to him by acting as though he understands them.
At one instance, he became irate and almost broke the hand of a pedophile who had sexually assaulted multiple females, including his own niece, while also upsetting his family.
