Pachinko: What Happened to Sunja’s Mother?

“Pachinko” is a long-running period-drama series that takes place over seven decades. Min Jin Lee, a Korean-American author and journalist, wrote a book with the same name last year. The story starts in the early years of the Japanese occupation of Korea and goes through World War II, the bombings, and the years after that until the late 1980s. It’s about a Korean Japanese family. A lot of attention is paid to Sunja, who moves to Osaka from Busan with her husband in 1931. She leaves her home and mother, Yangjin, behind. During her first visit home in 1989, she meets up with a friend from high school. Bokhee used to live and work at Sunja’s family’s boarding house. When Sunja asks Bokhee about her mother, she says she hasn’t seen her in a long time. What did Yangjin do? If you want to know, this is what you need to know. If you want to know what happens in the show and Lee’s book, don’t read on!

Sunja’s Mother: What Happened With Her?

The Korea part of the story starts with Yangjin. After losing three sons before they were even born, Yangjin goes to a female shaman. She is told that a daughter is coming, and through her, their family will be able to stay together. Yongjin is married to Hoonie. Hoonie has had a twisty foot and cleft palate since she was born. Due to the occupation, the economy of Korea has been completely destroyed, leaving many people without money. It isn’t that Hoonie’s family doesn’t have money, though. They live a sensible way. When Yangjin comes to help him run the boarding house that his parents left him, he runs it well.

Sunja is the daughter of Hoonie and Yangjin, and she is also their granddaughter. Sunja has a happy and sheltered childhood, even though the country around her is fighting against colonial rule. A man named Hoonie wants to get his daughter educated, but his wife doesn’t want him to do that. Hoonie eventually dies of tuberculosis, but his family is strong. Yangjin is still running the boarding house with the help of her daughter, who is now 18. As soon as she finds out that her daughter is pregnant, she becomes very worried about what the future will be like for Sunja. There must be a reason why Isak, a Christian pastor who Yangjin nursed back to health, agrees to marry Sunja and give her child his name. She then has to say goodbye because Sunja is leaving for Osaka, and Yangjin has to do the same thing.

In Bokhee’s story, we learn more about what happened after she told it. After Bokhee and Donghee helped Yangjin run the boarding house, they kept on. Even more difficult times came when World War II broke out. Because Bokhee and Donghee thought Yangjin didn’t want them to work in Manchuria, they left. There was no Yangjin when they came back.

In Lee’s book, we know that Sunja meets her mother again. As soon as the war breaks out, Sunja’s former lover and the father of her first child, Koh Hansu, brings Sunja and what’s left of her family to the country. In the story, Isak has already died. Sunja has two sons, so she has a lot of kids. Noa is her child with Koh Hansu, and Mozasu is her son with Isak. This is how it works: He’s been watching Sunja’s family for years, and he’s been secretly helping them with their money problems, too.

This time, Koh Hansu brings Sunja’s mother to her, while she is in the country. People who made the show “Pachinko” have already made changes that make it look and sound different from the original material in a number of ways. However, the main story hasn’t changed. If that keeps going on, there is a good chance that Sunja will be reunited with her mother in the show as well, too.
