An autistic Korean on TikTok criticized Netflix’s most popular K-drama, Extraordinary Attorney Woo, for its problematic title. The content creator @aegoaegyo asked people to stop fetishizing the lead character in a video that she posted, explaining that the original Korean title, Weird Lawyer Woo Young-woo, is offensive to autistic people.
They were quickly inundated with messages, however, claiming that the title actually mentioned “extraordinary” and not “weird.”
The creator of the content was then required to publish a second video explaining to the viewers that the titles in Korean and English were different. Even more, they claimed that it “actually is what the creator wanted it to be” and that it “is not a mistranslation.”
