Toby and Tanner Howard, brothers, commit bank robberies in West Texas at two locations of the Texas Midlands Bank. Storyline of High Water
Toby is able to get past a police checkpoint without being stopped, and he cleans the dirty money at the casino, which is where he finds out about his brother’s passing from the news. At the ranch, Hamilton has a confrontation with Toby and asks him about the robberies, wanting to know why they happened. Toby explains that he has made the decision that he will not allow poverty to have the same impact on his sons as it did on him and Tanner. The two men are having a conversation when Hamilton lets Toby know that he blames him for the death of Parker, and as they talk, the tension between them builds as a clear prelude to an impending violent shootout. But their conversation is cut short when Toby’s ex-wife and their children show up. As Hamilton walks away, Toby suggests that they get together again soon so that they can “bring you some peace” and “finish the conversation.” Before Hamilton departs, he tells Toby that he would like to meet again and that perhaps he will “bring some peace” to Toby.
