Sage’s choice to sing Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” didn’t go over well with fans of “American Idol.” They thought she sounded too “generic.”
When Sage, a contestant on “American Idol” Season 20, said that she was going to sing Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” during the Top 24 performance, everyone was worried, and for good reason. If Sage wanted to put a new twist on Dolly Parton’s songs, guest mentor Jimmie Allen was not happy about it.
Sage, on the other hand, was able to put Jimmie at ease with her voice and unique take on the song. When Sage was done with her rehearsals, Jimmie said that Dolly would be happy with the way she did it. Sage was able to get the show’s judges, Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie, to fall in love with her underrated voice. A few of the judges even said that she was a good candidate for the Top 5 list. While the judges can’t get enough of her, Sage’s fans didn’t like her performance as much.
Fans had a lot of strong opinions about Sage’s performance, from slamming her take on “Jolene” to disagreeing with the judges’ verdict. I sing, too, but I’m not in the big business. I have been watching American Idol since Paula, Randy, and Simon were in charge of the judges. That girl is ranked number 05 “What did the fan wonder?
