Early years of Akshay Kumar

Kumar was born into a Punjabi family in Amritsar, Punjab, India [4] to Hari Om and Aruna Bhatia.
Army officer was his father.  Kumar developed a strong interest in sports at a young age. His father also loved to wrestle. He was born and raised at Chandni Chowk in Delhi, and after his father left the Army to work as an accountant for UNICEF, he went to Bombay (today’s Mumbai). His sister was soon born, and the family settled in Central Bombay’s Punjabi-heavy Koliwada neighborhood.

He attended Don Bosco High School in Matunga to receive his education, while also taking karate classes. He enrolled in Guru Nanak Khalsa College to pursue higher study but left early due to a lack of enthusiasm in the program. His father somehow managed to gather enough money to send him to Thailand when he told him he wanted to continue learning martial arts. Kumar spent five years in Thailand studying Thai Boxing after traveling to Bangkok to study martial arts.  Alka Bhatia is Kumar’s sister. When Kumar was an adolescent, his father questioned him about his career goals. Kumar acknowledged his interest in acting.

He studied martial arts in Bangkok, Thailand, where he learnt Muay Thai and worked as a chef and waiter after earning a black belt in Taekwondo while living in India.

After leaving Thailand, Kumar worked as a travel agent in Calcutta (modern-day Kolkata), as a chef in a hotel in Dhaka, and as a Kundan jewelry salesman in Delhi. When he got back to Bombay, he started instructing in martial arts.

During this time, Kumar received modeling advice from the father of one of his students, who was also a model coordinator. This recommendation finally led to Kumar receiving a modeling job for a furniture dealership. Since Kumar earned more money during the first two days of filming than he did throughout the entire month of his income, he decided to pursue a career in modeling. For 18 months without receiving anything, he assisted photographer Jayesh Sheth in order to shoot his initial body of work. He also performed in other movies as a background dancer. He once missed his flight to Bangalore for an advertisement shoot. He took his portfolio to a film studio and felt disappointed in himself. Producer Pramod Chakravarthy cast Kumar that night in the starring position of the film Deedar.

Filmography of Akshay Kumar

In Saugandh, Kumar made his debut as the main character opposing Raakhee and Shantipriya (1991). He appeared in the poorly received Dancer, which Kishore Vyas directed in the same year. The suspense thriller Khiladi, which Abbas Mustan directed the next year, featured him in what was regarded as his breakthrough performance.  The Indian Express’s review of the movie termed it “an intriguing thriller” and praised Kumar for playing the lead role, praising his “perfectly at ease” performance and great screen presence. His subsequent release was the James Bond-inspired detective movie Mr. Bond, which Raj Sippy directed. Deedar was his final release of 1992. The movie didn’t do well at the box office.

Alongside Dr. Vishnuvardhan and Ashwini Bhave, he appeared in the 1993 bilingual film Ashaant, which was directed by Keshu Ramsay. Dil Ki Baazi, Kayda Kanoon, Waqt Hamara Hai, and Sainik were all of his 1993 releases that had poor box office results. He had 11 appearances in feature films in 1994. He appeared as a police inspector in two movies, Main Khiladi Tu Anari by Sameer Malkan and Mohra by Rajiv Rai, both of which ranked high on the year’s box office. Later same year, he co-starred with Kajol in the Yash Chopra-produced romance Yeh Dillagi, which brought him additional success. One of the year’s biggest box office hits, both the movie and his performance earned favorable reviews from critics. The Indian Express singled out his performance and referred to him as “always trustworthy.” He received his first Best Actor nomination for the movie for the Filmfare Awards and Star Screen award. In the same year, Kumar also found success with low-budget action flicks Elaan and Suhaag. According to Box Office India, all of these accomplishments made Kumar one of the most successful actors of the year.

With what is now known as the Khiladi series, Kumar showed that he could be successful. With Khiladi in the title, he starred in the fourth and fifth action thriller movies, Sabse Bada Khiladi (1995) and Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi (1996), both of which were commercial successes and were directed by Umesh Mehra. In the former, he had two roles. Rekha and Raveena Tandon co-starred in Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi. Kumar had an injury when the movie was being filmed, and he later traveled to the US for medical attention. In her year-end review, Shubhra Gupta of The Indian Express stated: “Without a doubt, Akshay Kumar’s performance in Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi was what made the theaters crowded. He wore ankle-length great jackets, pulled his hair back into a neat little ponytail like Steven Segal, engaged in arm wrestling with the terrifying Undertaker, and won the movie.”

Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit, and Karisma Kapoor costarred with Kumar in the Yash Chopra-directed romance Dil To Pagal Hai (1997), for which he garnered his first nomination for the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award.

He co-starred with Juhi Chawla in the comedy Mr. and Mrs. Khiladi, the fifth installment of the Khiladi series, which was directed by David Dhawan. It wasn’t as successful commercially as his other movies in the same series. However, a different dual character in the romantic action movie Aflatoon brought about significant success. Despite having issues with the movie, critic Khalid Mohamed praised Kumar’s work: “Akshay Kumar appears on screen. When given a task that is even somewhat different, he succeeds well.”  His cinematic career suffered as a result of the commercial failure of his subsequent productions. In the 1999 film International Khiladi, Kumar starred opposite Twinkle Khanna. The movie ended up having an average box office performance. He won praise from critics for his performances in the movies Sangharsh and Jaanwar. While the first failed to produce a profit at the box office, the second was a financial success and signaled his comeback.
