But when her whole skull was found, it showed that he had been lying. When he was told the truth, he said he wanted to kill himself but didn’t because he wanted to see his wife and cats first.
He changed his story again the next year. In 2018, the BBC said that Madsen said Wall died of carbon monoxide poisoning because his car was full of dangerous exhaust fumes.
But when he was on trial, the prosecution argued against the new story. It said that Madsen killed Wall because he had a violent sex fantasy, based on the fact that a violent video of women being killed was found on his computer.
They showed that he had the tools to tie Wall up and stab him. To The New York Times in 2018, they also showed him texts he had deleted but that had been found, in which he said he had “great pleasure” in planning the best way to kill his friend.
