“Timmy” Wiltsey was a 5-year-old boy from South Amboy in New Jersey who went missing from a carnival in nearby Sayreville on May 25, 1991, says his mother Michelle Lodzinski. The carnival was in the town of Sayreville.
He was not found when police searched the area where the festival was held, and he didn’t show up. Across the Raritan River in Edison, near an office park where Lodzinski used to work, his bones were found about 11 months later.

After Chief Justice Stuart Rabner stepped down, the other justices were all the same. Her most recent appeal, which upheld her conviction, stayed in place.
To make a decision, the Court agreed to use a rarely-used rule that allows the case to be heard again by a different judge who is temporarily called a justice.
Her conviction was overturned at the end of the year by a very small majority of the court. They said that the evidence was not enough for a reasonable jury to convict her.

In less than a month, she changed her story about how her son went missing, and when she talked about the case in public, she was seen as a suspect because she didn’t show any emotion.
Later in the decade, she was found guilty of making up her own kidnapping and then stealing a laptop from a previous employer, which made the public think she was even more dishonest.
As time went on, she got married and had two more children. She moved to Florida, where she was caught in 2014.
When Lodzinski found Wiltsey’s deteriorated bones, they couldn’t figure out how he died or when or how it happened. No one else had seen him in a long time, making it hard to link her to any wrongdoing or figure out when and how it happened.
