Heather was killed by her mother-in-law, Joanna Hayes, who tried to plead not guilty until the very end. She killed her daughter-in-law while dressed as a man with a wig and mustache.
Strube and her husband were getting a divorce, and they shared custody of their 18-month-old son, Carson. Every day, she met Steven in the parking lot of Target to give Carson back to her husband.
As soon as the father and son left, she got into a fight with someone who blocked her path and killed her with a gunshot. Someone saw the whole thing. Even though the shooter was caught on the surveillance tape, they couldn’t figure out who it was because she was dressed up. It was a planned murder.
What happened to Joanna Hayes?
After months of looking into the case, Joanna got what she deserved. She was caught, and she was sentenced to life in prison. This means that the murderer is in jail.
When a truck driver saw someone in a white pickup truck taking pictures of the shopping center and looking at it through binoculars, the police were able to narrow down the suspect and catch up with the case. Hayes owned the truck. Also, when the interrogator showed Steve the video from the parking lot, Steve was scared and said that the person in the video was his mother.
Even so, she vehemently denied the accusations and stayed true to her word that she was innocent until the prosecutors were able to convince the jury. On May 27, 2011, the jury found her guilty of murder. Even though the prisoner can ask for release in 2041, she will spend the rest of her life behind bars.
