Where are Brett Mugglin and Mark Hartman Now?

“Phrogging” on Lifetime is a true crime thriller about how creepy it is for people to live in secret in someone else’s house.

Hider in My House is a show that is really unlike anything else. This is because it shows in a bone-chilling way how dangerous strangers can be by using archival footage, reenactments, and first-hand accounts from survivors. In episode 3, “Living Among Us,” Brett Mugglin and Mark Hartman are two of them. If you want to know more about their pasts and where they are now, we have the information for you.

Who are Mark Hartman and Brett Mugglin?

Brett and Mark, both seniors at Ohio State University, moved into a big house on 13th Avenue off campus in August 2013. They didn’t know that the big house would also have big secrets. At first, they were the only ones living there, along with a fellow student named MJ. Over time, though, at least ten more friends joined them as renters of this three-story Columbus house. At this point, though, the two people were already making jokes about living with a restless “ghost” because strange things had started happening on the property just days after they moved in.

Mark once said, “We had been telling everyone this story about how the ghost in our house would come in and open all the doors to our cabinets, microwave, oven, and other things.” He and Brett didn’t know how to explain it any other way because they had looked everywhere and found nothing but a locked door in the basement, which they thought might be a utility closet. According to the “Criminal” podcast, Brett thought he might have done it because he was sleepwalking, and Mark thought it was a harmless college prank, but neither of these was true.

When they heard “weird noises like dings and alarms” coming from behind the locked door in the basement, but couldn’t figure out how to open it, the scholars realized this was true. Brett and Mark finally called their landlord to find out what was going on. When they did, they found a secret room with photos, clothes, a TV, a bathroom, and a place to live. It was clear that someone was living there illegally, but they weren’t there or nearby at the time, so the landlord and the police left a note to make sure they were kicked out, which worked without a hitch.

The strangest thing, though, was that Brett knew the man in the photos. He had seen him once while working downstairs, but he thought he was just another tenant. This man casually said, “Oh, I was wondering when I would get to meet the people who live here,” and then he introduced himself as Jeremy, another student at Ohio State. Then, they found out that Jeremy had gotten into the house a year before when one of his close cousins was living there. This made the two of them change every lock on the house.

Brett told the college newspaper The Lantern back in September 2013 that Jeremy was a really nice person. “I’m sorry for him. It’s just that he wasn’t supposed to live there… It’s funny now, but it could have been very dangerous because some random guy had a key to our house and was living there without anyone knowing.” Even Mark agreed that Jeremy wasn’t a bad person; he was just the kind of person who couldn’t live there.

The only good thing that came out of this was that all of the problems that the students had been complaining about for a long time were suddenly fixed by the realtor. As for where they are now, Brett and Mark moved on with their lives after getting their Bachelor’s degrees in Computer Science and Engineering and Civil Engineering, respectively, in 2014. Even though they don’t live in the same city or work or spend most of their free time together, they still seem to be very good friends. However, their lives are very different now.

Brett moved to Portland, Oregon, in August 2017. Since then, he has worked his way up in his field and is now a technical lead at HubSpot, a job he got in June 2022. He seems to be going out with Stephanie Faddis right now. Mark has lived in Orlando, Florida, Delaware, Ohio, and Norfolk, Virginia. In 2018, he moved back to Columbus, Ohio, where he works for a private company as a proud roadway/transportation engineer. He is not only married to Sarah, but he also has a child.
