What Happens To Harwin Strong In House of the Dragon? Is He The Father of Rhaenyra Targaryen’s Sons?

In House of the Dragon, Harwin Strong ends up like most of the characters in Game of Thrones. I don’t want to ruin the story for you, but it doesn’t look good for the knight.

Many important characters in House of the Dragon have already been shown, but a supporting character named Harwin “breakbones” Strong will soon be the main character in the next few episodes.

People have grown attached to different characters in the few episodes of House of the Dragon that have already aired. Even though Harwin is only on screen for a minute or two, he seems to be more captivating than either Daemon or Criston.

Fans have been posting desperate comments and tweets about that one scene where Ser Harwin Strong waded into the chaos to carry Rhaenyra to safety on social media, especially Twitter. At the pre-wedding party, when he and Rhaenyra danced together, people could already tell that there was something between them.

Spoilers for the current season of House of the Dragons and maybe even future seasons are coming up.

In “House of the Dragon,” what happens to Harwin Strong?

Ser Harwin Strong is the heir to House Strong’s Westeros home, Harrenhall, and a knight from the House of the Dragon.

During the Dance of Dragons, he is also one of the most powerful people in the realm. Lyonel Strong, Harwin’s father, was a King’s Hand, and his family was close to the king.

Fans may remember that during the wedding scene between Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and Ser Laenor Velaryon, Ser Criston Cole bit the king’s consort’s lover.

Even though the princess was still in the middle of the bloody fight, this made everyone who was watching angry. Soon after that, Ser Harwin Strong saw the princess and carried her away from the crowd while gliding on his back through the sea of people.

House of the Dragon has already started to plant the seeds for this to happen, thanks to Harwin’s desire to support Rhaenyra’s bad habits, which other people want to destroy. He has also shown that he is willing to stand up for Rhaenyra, which is what the City Watch is sworn to do.

House of the Dragon is the first time we see Harwin Strong

Ser Harwin was first seen in the third episode, when Prince Aegon celebrated his second name day. He went with his father and King Viserys on the Royal Hunt. In the fifth episode, when he saves Princess Rhaenyra from the chaos at the wedding, we see how strong he is physically.

In the next episode of House of the Dragon, Harwin was shown to be a member of the City Watch. He is known as Breakbones because of how he acts, and most people think he is the strongest man in the Seven Kingdoms.

In House of the Dragon, he hasn’t had the chance to show this yet, but he soon will. Up to that point, Harwin had shown that he adds something different to the value of House of the Dragon.

In “Second of His Name,” Harwin is one of several people who see Rhaenyra walk through the camp covered in blood from a boar (season 1, episode 3). At the same time, Jason Lannister (Jefferson Hall) looks at Rhaenyra with hatred, and King Viserys, Alicent, and Otto Hightower, in different ways, show that they don’t like her.

Harwin’s reaction to Rhaenyra’s recent journey stands out because he looks happy and proud

Harwin and House of the Dragon fans, who were proud of Rhaenyra’s confident walk into camp, become friends because of Harwin’s silent but emotional support for Rhaenyra at this moment.

In the next episode of House of the Dragon, “King of the Narrow Sea,” Harwin kept making things right. Even though Harwin only shows up briefly in the episode, he gives the audience more reasons to like or trust him.

Harwin is a member of the City Watch. He meets Rhaenyra when she is out with Daemon at midnight on a secret mission. At first, he believes Rhaenyra when she says she’s a city boy, but when he finds out she’s the princess, he makes fun of her and lets her go with Daemon.

Given how quickly “King of the Narrow Sea” is moving to find out what happened between Rhaenyra and Daemon that night, Harwin’s apparent silence and possible reluctance to confirm or deny these claims lead both viewers and Rhaenyra to think that he is a likely person to trust going forward.

Are Rhaenyra Targaryen’s sons Harwin Strong’s children?

Based on their hair color and other features, many people, including Queen Alicent, think that Harwin Strong is the father of Rhaenyra Targaryen’s sons.

Spoiler alert: Rhaenyra and Harwin end up falling in love in the books, but it’s not clear yet if the TV show will follow the same path.

The group called “the blacks” that backs Princess Rhaenyra and her claim to the Iron Throne will catch Harwin’s attention more and more. When the situation in the Red Keep gets too bad, Rhaenyra will leave the court to get away from Alicent and claim Dragonstone as her home. Harwin will follow her, and stories say he will do more than just be her ally or sworn protector.

Rhaenyra has trouble getting back on her feet after giving birth to her third son, Joffrey Velaryon. This is shown in a short clip from episode 6 that is already making the rounds online. She already had Jacaerys and Lucerys when he was born. You might be wondering how this is related to Ser Harwin.

Even though both of their parents are pure Valyrian, all three of the boys in Fire & Blood and The World of Ice and Fire are said to look like Ser Harwin instead of having inherited the traditional traits of Old Valyria.

The fact that Jacaerys, Lucerys, and Joffrey Velaryon don’t have silver-gold hair or purple pigment in their eyes suggests that their father, Ser Laenor, is not at all their father.

Even though Fire & Blood presents itself as a “serious” historical account that glosses over some more personal events, it never says directly that Harwin was Rhaenyra’s lover. But House of the Dragon should show the full extent of how these two people know each other.

Even though all the other Valyrian characters wear silver-blonde wigs, the kids who play Princes Jacaerys and Lucerys have full heads of dark hair. Those wigs have been pretty bad so far, so it might be better for them.

In House of the Dragon, does Harwin Strong die?

Spoiler Alert! According to the book Fire & Blood, The Breakbones dies with his father in the castle Harrenhall for no clear reason. In the second season of Game of Thrones, when Arya was kidnapped and ran into Tywin Lannister, we saw this creepy place for the first time.

Ser Harwin’s death is caused in part by the birth of three princes. Prince Aemond Targaryen, who is the third child of King Viserys and Queen Alicent, makes fun of them by calling them “Strongs.” This makes them fight with each other.

The four boys, who had been fighting with wooden swords until then, now use more dangerous weapons. Lucerys pulls out his knife and cuts Aemond’s face. He also takes out Aemond’s right eye, which is how he got the name “Aemond One-Eye.”

After that fight, King Viserys tells Ser Harwin he has to leave Princess Rhaenyra’s household. Then he goes back to Harrenhal, where his story ends in a fiery way. In the same year, a fire burned down the town and killed Lord Lyonel and Ser Harwin.

Officially, the accident was blamed on Harrenhal’s curse, but if you know what this means, it’s more like a Lady Rhea Royce situation. But since Daemon had a dragon, it wouldn’t be crazy to think that he could quickly fly up to the Vale to get rid of a wife he was sick of. In the book Fire & Blood, Lady Rhea’s death is shown as a sad, unavoidable accident.

Harwin’s death is thought to have been done by Daemon Targaryen again to get rid of competition for Rhaenyra’s love by Lord Corlys Velaryon as a way to get back at Ser Harwin for smearing his son’s name by King Viserys himself to stop the rumors that were going around about Rhaenyra and by Harwin’s brother Larys.

House Strong’s Rise

House Strong has always been a small house on House of the Dragon, but now that Lyonel is Hand of the King and his descendants are getting to know the queen consort and princess better, it’s clear that the family is on the rise.

During Aegon’s Conquest, House Strong and House Tully rebelled against Harren Hoare, King of the Isles and the Rivers, and instead sided with House Targaryen.

Ser Osmund Strong was named Hand of the King when King Aegon I Targaryen was in charge. He was in charge of building the walls around King’s Landing.

Since moving to King’s Landing ten years ago, the Strongs have done well. Lyonel is a smart Hand of the King who fits Viserys’ needs perfectly. Harwin is now the Commander of the City Watch, the Gold Cloaks, while Larys is the Lord Confessor, the royal torturer.

Lyonel and Harwin have a strong relationship

House of the Dragon has already begun to show that, as the oldest son of Lyonel Strong, Harwin comes from a line of smart people (Gavin Spokes). Lyonel has proven himself to be a reliable friend as King Viserys’s Master of Laws.

Throughout House of the Dragon, Lyonel has tried to get Viserys to act in the best way for his House and the realm, but Viserys hasn’t always been smart enough to listen to his advice. It’s also important to note that Lyonel hasn’t used his friendship with Viserys to get what he wants.

At the very least, Lyonel urged Viserys to make peace with Lord Corlys for the money (Steve Toussaint). He suggested that Viserys marry Corlys’s daughter, Laena, to make this happen. After Viserys said no the first time, Lyonel brought it up again between Rhaenyra and Corlys’ son Laenor.

Before he became the Lord of Harrenhal, Lord Lyonel went to Oldtown to learn how to be a maester. He went to the Westerosi version of the university for many years. He earned an amazing six links on his chain, which meant he was at least a “acolyte” and could have become a “maester” if he had wanted to.

He finally had a change of heart and decided he didn’t want that kind of life (and perhaps growing tired of celibacy).

Lord Lyonel seems quiet and humble, like his ancestor Osmund, who was the first Strong to serve as Hand of the King for a Targaryen. However, he is very smart and knows a lot about political strategy. One of the few smart things Viserys did was choose Lyonel as his second Hand.

Harwin Strong and Larys Strong are brothers

Ser Harwin’s younger brother Larys, who has never been knighted or recognized in public, is the last Strong family member to be watched. This is because Larys already had a name for himself: “Larys the Clubfoot.” This was a cruel joke that made fun of the fact that he was sick and had a clubfoot and other problems from birth.

During the big hunt in the third episode of House of the Dragon, Larys briefly chooses to hang out with the women in the pavilion instead of bragging to the men outside.

In the fifth episode, when he talked to Alicent, we saw how smart he is and how good he is at getting information from other people. He might have learned that the Grand Maester had made Princess Rhaenyra’s morning-after pill, moon tea, during these listening sessions.

He then told Queen Alicent about the princess’s nighttime activities, which were getting more and more hidden from the rest of the world.

House of the Dragon has already shown that Queen Alicent and the Clubfoot have something in common. He will then side with Alicent and Prince Aegon, who are both Greens, in the civil war. He will go to the small council meetings and use his smarts and cunning to help Aegon II take over.

In Fire & Blood, Larys becomes a powerful Master of Whispers, just like Varys did in Game of Thrones.
