The University of North Texas was his current place of study, and he was pursuing an International Studies degree at the time. Trevor Reed’s freedom has been demanded by the Russian foreign ministry in return for the release of Konstantin Yaroshenko.
On drug smuggling accusations, Yaroshenko, a Russian pilot, had been facing a hefty prison sentence. He was apprehended in Liberia in 2010 and is currently serving a twenty-year sentence in prison there.
Reed’s parents had protested outside the White House last month, and they were successful in getting the prison swap completed. They were eventually successful in obtaining an audience with the President. Following President Biden’s decision to commute Mr. Yaroshenko’s sentence, the trade was completed through Turkey.
