Should Tinubu be held responsible for what happened at EndSARS?

In a live video on Daddy Freeze’s Facebook program a few minutes ago, he invited a customer by the name of Dr. Ayodeji Bakare, also known as DJ Bongolee, who shared his thoughts on the contentious question posed by Daddy Freeze: If Alhaji Bola Ahmed is to blame for what happened at EndSARS, as in type demand?

DJ Bongolee explained that it’s not fair to hold Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu responsible for what happened at EndSARS.

“If you look at Section 17 of the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution as amended, it specifies that the president is the commander-in-chief of the armed forces,” he argues. President Muhammadu Buhari is Nigeria’s commander-in-chief of the armed forces.

There are engagement norms and command chains in place. It passes from the President to the chief of defence employees, chief of military workers, and the commanding commander of the nearest barracks inside the space.”

There’s no way the first person in the country should call Jagaban and tell him what he’s about to do in Lagos and ask whether he’s OK with it. There were rumors that Tinubu had gone to France, specifically Paris, on that day. “The next day, Jagaban was interviewed, and he said he was in Nigeria, and none of it happened.”

“I’d like everyone to remember that Nigeria’s president issued a press statement in which he addressed the entire EndSARS problem.” He made no mention of the EndSARS demonstration two days later, on October 20, 2020. So who is Jagaban to talk on the subject? If Nigeria’s president, who commands the military, doesn’t deal with it, Tinubu won’t either, because he lacks the constitutional authority to say or do anything.

Finally, he asked how someone who does not have constitutional rights can be concerned about EndSARS, the incident at the Lekki toll gate. Is it because of the “supposed godfather”? Tinubu, he said, has no constitutional right in any form.
