Controversies of Tinara Westbrook
In an Instagram story she shared on April 22, 2019, Westbrook talked about feeling misled by the beauty industry. A few hours before Westbrook’s post, James Charles, another beauty YouTuber, published an ad for SugarBearHair, a business that competes with Halo Beauty, owned by Westbrook. Westbrook uploaded a 43-minute video named “BYE SISTER” to YouTube on May 10, 2019. In which she asserted that the conflict between her and Charles was not just about advertising but also about her past relationship with Charles and claims that she had sexually assaulted him.
Because of the video, she attracted more than four million members in a week while Charles lost more than three million in just four days. She attained a peak subscriber count of over 10.6 million. Charles addressed the allegations on May 18 in a video titled “No More Lies,” in which he offered his version of events. After that, Westbrook lost over a million subscribers and his qualification for the Diamond Creator Award on YouTube.
