Stone Foltz hazing: Who is he? Why Two BGSU ex-frat members receive a 6-week sentence?

BOWLING GREEN, OHIO: On Wednesday, August 10, two former BGSU fraternity members were sentenced to six weeks in jail after being found guilty of hazing-related crimes relating to the death of a BGSU student in 2021.

The major accusations against Troy Henricksen, 24, and Jacon Krinn, 21, in the March 2021 killing of Stone Foltz, 20, were dropped in May of this year. The two were accused with reckless homicide and involuntary manslaughter.

Henricksen of Grove City, Ohio, was found guilty of hazing and disobeying age restrictions. He received a sentence of 28 days of home arrest and 42 days in jail. While this was going on, Krinn of Delaware, Ohio, was found guilty of hazing, obstruction of official business, and breaking the law regarding minors. She was also given a sentence of 42 days in jail and 28 days of house arrest.

As per the statement by the authorities, Foltz from Delaware, Ohio died of alcohol poisoning after being hazed into finishing an entire bottle of alcohol at a fraternity initiation event on March 4, 2021. Foltz and a few other club members arrived at the “Bando,” an off-campus residence, at 8.30 p.m., and that is when the event occurred.

The mentor from the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity was introduced to the participants during the ceremony. The new members were subjected to intense pressure from the mentor to consume a fifth (or roughly 750 ml) of a highly alcoholic beverage. Foltz completed his bottle in about 18 minutes, according to an observer. Foltz was unable to walk after the drinking, and he started throwing up. When they observed his condition, two fraternity brothers drove him to his apartment. Foltz’s roommate called his girlfriend Maddie Borja to let her know that he was unconscious around 30 minutes later. They soon discovered that Foltz was becoming blue and had stopped breathing. Foltz was transported by paramedics to Wood County Hospital.

On March 7, 2021, Foltz passed away. He donated his liver, kidneys, heart, lungs, and other organs. According to later official reports, his blood alcohol level was.394 g/dL.

The young boy’s parents, Shari and Cory Foltz, who filed a lawsuit against the school for negligence after his death, felt an emptiness in their hearts. “BGSU turned a blind eye to hazing inside the Greek organisations on its campus while recruiting students like Stone to join its fraternities and sororities,” the lawsuit claims.

The parents of the 20-year-old delivered a statement before to the two former members’ sentencing and referred to the defendants’ actions as “cruel, senseless, and destructive—to their lives and ours.”

Six former fraternity members admitted culpability after Foltz’s death to various offences; some of them gave witness accounts against Henricksen and Krinn. All were required to serve a total of 28 days under house arrest and received prison sentences ranging from seven to 28 days.
