Depp’s defense team had already recruited Dr. Shaw, a forensic psychologist, to review the testimony of medical experts Dr. David Spiegel and Dr. Kipper. Dr. Shaw said that Dr. Spiegel had violated the Goldwater Rule’s ethical standards, rendering his testimony “untrustworthy,” and that in order to determine a mental health prognosis, extensive diagnostic testing would be required, which Dr. Spiegel did not perform. On the evidence, Dr. Spiegel stated that he did not interview Depp directly for his assessments.

Calnan has represented a private technology company in a breach of contract litigation and a banking institution in a multimillion-dollar breach of guarantee action, for example. Calnan is also a member of the firm’s ‘Women’s Initiative Steering Committee,’ according to her Brown Rudnick bio, and participates in the humanitarian event ‘Lawyers Have Heart 5k.’
