For a month in January 2005, Tobias’ sister Kathrin and her boyfriend Jens Martin travelled with the couple as backpackers. Four of them then checked into the Lismore Tourist Caravan Park on February 11. Later that night, February 11–12, Simone vanished from the encampment.

In connection with the accused 2005 murder of German traveller Simone Strobel, a 42-year-old man has been detained in Western Australia.

Five days after she went missing, the 25-year-body old’s was discovered buried beneath palm fronds in Lismore, New South Wales.

A dog handler discovered her naked body a few days later, on February 17. Her body was discovered on the Lismore Continental Club grounds, hidden among palm fronds, not far from her car.

Police learned she was the victim of the crime and suffocated to death after conducting an autopsy. According to New South Wales officials, she may have been suffocated using a pillow or a piece of plastic. Additionally, the case analyst said that other people were involved in the crime.

Strike forces were organised to solve the crime. In 2020, the NSW government also provided a $1 million incentive. Finally, a suspect has been caught, and it now appears like the case may be solved. There are still court proceedings, though.

Tobias Moran, Simone’s former boyfriend Killer Arrested

Tobias Moran, Simone’s former boyfriend, was the primary suspect in the murder, according to the police.

After a warrant was issued against the 42-year-old in relation with the case, the NSW Police made the arrest. But according to The Guardian, he has already been in magistrate court while in detention as a result of the extradition request.

Police almost arrested him, but Deputy Paul McMahon decided there wasn’t enough evidence to suggest filing any charges. Thus, most people believe her lover is the killer.

Even during the investigation, it was discovered that Moran and other travellers had misled about certain facts. Furthermore, none of them have responded to the claims with a statement.

Families with the surname Strobel lived in Wurzburg. In a statement to the media, Gabi, her mother, said that she and her husband were finding it difficult to process what they had heard.

She went on to say that although they had to accept the reality, they had not anticipated anything of this magnitude to occur to their daughter. After NSW detectives had detained the victim’s then-boyfriend, the victim’s relatives and friends were looking for justice and may have believed the matter would eventually be resolved.

Virginia Peters, an Australian author, also wrote a book titled Have You Seen Simone in response to her situation. However, her former friend unsuccessfully sued the author for slander.
