Rainbow Ending Explained: Does Dora Succeed in Finding Her Mother?

Rainbow, a new Spanish movie on Netflix that came out on September 30, 2022, is a modern take on The Wizard of Oz.

Dora Postigo plays Dorothy’s character in the book, Dora, and Carmen Machi and Carmen Maura play the two witches and other roles. Paco Leon directed the movie, which was mostly about a road trip and had several musical scenes.

Even though it’s not one of the best versions of The Wizard of Oz, it does use a lot of metaphors that can be hard to understand. This is why we made a list of everything that happened at the end of Rainbow.

At the beginning of the story, the main character has a simple goal: she needs to find her mother. So, she goes on an exciting road trip that helps her grow up. The challenges and people she meets along the way shape her personality in the end. Even worse for her, there are also two witches involved, and one of them wants Dora’s blood.

Do things go the way Dora thought they would? What are these problems she has to solve before she can find peace of mind? Find out what she wants at the end of the yellow brick road by reading on (which is a bit more metaphorical than it is literal in this movie).

How Does the Rainbow End?

Dora’s life takes another hard turn after she went on a long trip to find her mother and was accused of killing the second richest man in the country. She learns that her whole life has been a lie and that her current father is not her real father. Once she is released from police custody because the charges against her are shown to be unimportant after watching the CCTV recording of the night, she also decides to leave her father.

At the end, we find out that two-thirds of Mr. Arturo Weizeg Molina’s inheritance goes to his only daughter, Dora. This is all because Maribel decided to take a DNA test. Coco Cabrera was given half of the money, but only until Dora turns 18. The will says that Miss Cabrera also gets the last third. They are said to be “the only owners of the W business conglomerate.”

Maribel and Coco had already parted ways, but she comes back to the mansion to get the last of her things. Coco sees this as a chance to get her to join her side again. After fooling her for so long, she plays the victim card again by saying she can’t go on without her help now that she’s old. This is just a showy way for her to get closer to Dora later.

The two decide to throw a party to celebrate the start of a new era in their business and to welcome Dora into the family. On the day of the party, Coco toasts Arturo’s wealth and puts poison in Dora’s drink. Dora is still on edge, though, because of all the changes in her life. She can’t seem to get used to this new, glamorous way of life. She turns her nose up at the drink and throws away the glass.

She walks over to a piano on the lawn and starts to play a happy song, which makes everyone start dancing. She seems to have powers after all. Things start to float up, too, in the end. After a few seconds of this, Coco starts to feel sick and falls into the pool. It turned out that Maribel had also put poison in her drink.

Also, the lion Dora had been seeing comes to life and scares everyone away from the party, leaving only Maribel sitting by the pool with Coco’s body floating in the water. Since the lion doesn’t bother her while she’s sitting, it seems like she’s the one who made the lion appear. She was never interested in the money or all these parties.

She decides to go back to living with her birth father after her friend tells her to do so. On her way home, she stops at a diner and orders a cup of latte. She can’t help but give the waitress a hard look. Once her coffee is brought to her, she finds out that her name is Pilar, the same as her mother’s.

Even though she doesn’t talk to her or follow her, as soon as she steps outside, a smile lights up her face, and a rainbow shines at her. So, this shows that she did find what she was looking for at the end of the yellow brick road: a rainbow after a destructive cyclone, i.e., a sense of belonging with her family and in this world.

Dora is 16 years old and lives with her father, Diego Galan, and their dog, Toto, in a small town.

When her father asks her to pick up her birthday cake from the store, she overhears a conversation about how Dora looks more like her mother than her father.

On her 16th birthday, she spends the night with her father, who starts to talk about her childhood and how she changed his life.

On the other hand, Dora asks him where her mother is and why she left her. When Diego won’t answer her questions, she takes her dog and goes to find her mother.

She goes to Weizegs’ house, where her mother used to work, and finds out about her grandmother, Maribel, who lives with Coco Weizegs.

She also meets her cousin there. Her cousin gives her the address of another place in the capital city where her mother, Pilar, was last seen.

Maribel and Coco argue about how Dora showed up in their lives out of the blue. During a heated argument, Coco shoots her husband by accident. He was very sick and had just died.

At that moment, his lawyer comes in and denies the claim, saying that no one will believe that the second-richest person in the world died in that way.

Coco accuses Dora of killing her husband in a panic, but Dora runs away before they can call the police.

Detective Antonio starts his search for the killer at Coco’s house, where she says Dora broke in and killed her husband. Maribel says that Dora is her granddaughter, even though she thought Dora had died when she was born.

The will is brought up by Felix, who is Coco’s lawyer. Since Coco’s husband Arturo didn’t have any children, the will says that the property goes to Coco alone.

With that, Coco also says that the expensive fertility treatments have made her three months pregnant.

Dora keeps going to the capital city, but she meets a drug addict named Muneco, a man named Mr. Bubalu who tries to kill himself by jumping off a cliff, and a boy named Akin whose brother often beats him up for being different.

All of them go with Dora on her journey to find her mother

Coco tells Maribel that if she wants to keep living with her and take over the company, she must help her find Dora and get rid of her.

Dora and her three friends follow what her cousin told them to do and go to the motel in the capital city to look for her mother.

The motel’s owner says that Pilar used to work there a year ago. Dora’s mother is now working in Chinatown.

Coco has a miscarriage and thinks that Maribel is to blame for everything. Maribel tells Coco that she gave up her daughter Pilar just to be with her, which breaks her heart, and she decides to leave Coco.

Why does Coco frame Dora for murder?

When Dora goes to the address that the motel owner gave her, she ends up in Chinatown. But Maribel shows up instead of her mother. She tells Dora that Coco is after her and that her life is in danger.

When Dora asks Maribel why Coco is accusing her of murder, she finally says that Coco found out Pilar was pregnant with her husband’s child on the day Dora was born, 16 years ago.

She became violent and mean to Pilar and tried to kill her child, but Pilar ran away that day and blamed her mother for ruining her life.

She also says that Arturo’s only child, Dora, is the only one who can inherit all of his money, which is why Coco is trying to frame her.

How will Dora get the house?

When the police took Dora into custody, Detective Antonio told Diego that she would be freed right away because security footage from the scene of the murder showed that it was an accident.

Dora tells Diego that he’s not her real father, and he tells her that he’s going to take her home.

Dora runs away, and Maribel helps her get a DNA test. The test shows that Dora is the daughter of the late Arturo.

Because of this, she gets two-thirds of his estate, while Coco gets the other two-thirds. The new will says that they are the only ones who own the W business empire.

What does everyone do at the party?

Maribel goes to Coco to get her things after she helped Dora get what was rightfully hers.

Coco wants her to live with her again. She tells Maribel that she really loves her, and Maribel decides to come back.

Coco and Maribel are now in business together, so they plan a big party and invite Dora.

Maribel finds out that Coco is trying to kill Dora when she goes to the party with Muneco and Mr. Bubalu. She then puts poison in Coco’s drink, which kills her.

Does Dora get to meet her mother?

After the party, Dora decides to go back to her father’s house and calls Diego.

Then, on her way home, she stops at a diner. From the woman’s nametag, she learns that her name is Pilar.

She looks longingly at her mother, but she doesn’t tell anyone who she is and leaves the diner.
