On September 7, 1985, in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, a Marathi-speaking family welcomed Radhika Apte into the world. When she was born, her parents were medical students and employees at the Christian Medical College & Hospital, Vellore. Her father, Dr. Charudutt Apte, later graduated as a neurosurgeon and rose to the position of chairman at Sahyadri Hospital in Pune. She graduated from Fergusson College in Pune with a degree in mathematics and economics. She began her education in a conventional school in Pune before being home-schooled alongside four of her friends by their parents, who also lived in the same building and opposed sending their kids through the regular schooling system.
