Patrick McDermott who “vanished” reappeared After Olivia Newton’s Death
While in the boat, Patrick McDermott vanished, but nobody noticed until his boat reached dry land.

Patrick McDermott’s unexplained disappearance, which involved Olivia Newton-John, continues to confound many. For nine years, the movie cameraman dated Olivia. He vanished in June 2005. He disappeared after going on an overnight fishing expedition with 22 other people.
Olivia Newton-John, the star of “Grease,” passed away on August 8 at the age of 73 at her ranch in southern California, surrounded by her loved ones. In a statement posted on the singer’s Instagram page, her husband John Easterling pleaded for privacy from the public during this trying time.
While on the boat, Patrick vanished, but no one noticed until after the boat had reached dry land. At the time, he was 48. One of the many ideas surrounding his disappearance is that he might have pretended to die in order to start over in Mexico and evade taxes. According to a 2009 interview with Women’s Weekly, Newton-John said, “I don’t think I will ever completely be at peace with it.” “I believe that a question mark will always exist.”
After Olivia’s 1995 divorce from her first husband Matt Lattanzi, they started dating and have been together for nine years on and off. When Patrick disappeared, Olivia was in Australia for a promotional tour. His car keys, passport, and wallet were discovered on board his fishing boat, “Freedom,” by the crew. At the Los Angeles marina at San Pedro, his automobile was discovered parked. Only after he failed to show up at a family gathering on July 6 did anybody realize he was gone. On July 11, the police were finally called.
Before meeting Olivia, Patrick was already married and the father of a son. He was required by the court to pay $8000 in child support that was retroactive. After declaring bankruptcy and having debts of more than $30,000, people started to speculate that he faked his death in order to escape. “We did not find any proof of criminal conduct, suicide, accident or hoax in the disappearance of McDermott,” the Coast Guard said after an investigation.
A three-year investigation into the boat revealed that no head counts were done on the day of the excursion, which is why Patrick’s disappearance went unreported. Both examinations came to the conclusion that he may have been lost at sea throughout the night and drowned as a result. Since then, he has been thought to be deceased.
However, a manager at the marina in San Pedro where Patrick boarded the vessel claimed he doesn’t think he passed away. He told the Herald Sun in 2005, “I think the person got off the boat, but I could be incorrect. “He got off the boat, albeit he might have been abducted by aliens in the parking lot.” He continued, “Look, if you really want to leap, jump when nobody is looking and you’ll never be seen. An onboard fisherman claimed to have met Patrick only 3.5 hours into the voyage. He never did, though, see him again. Fisherman Tony Mayo reportedly remarked, “I kept an eye out for him all day, but never saw him.
Within a year of Patrick’s disappearance, at least six witnesses came forward to say they had seen him alive in Mexico. Then, in 2010, he reappeared in Mexico. It was claimed that images of a guy and a woman published in 2017 by New Idea magazine were of Patrick and his new girlfriend in Mexico. A Canadian couple later identified themselves as the ones in the photograph, though. At the time, a private detective claimed to have located Patrick, according to CBS. “Patrick’s probably now working for a famous family down there in the yachting business,” he continued.
Later, in 2008, Olivia wed John Easterling at an Inca ceremony in Peru. He was lost at sea, and nobody really knows what occurred, she told 60 Minutes in 2016. Added she, “People naturally wonder. Because those worries are present whenever you experience adversity. You must accept and let go of those things in life. Questions naturally arise since we are human. You see, I continue to live.”
In the meantime, Olivia developed a special friendship with Patrick’s ex-wife after he vanished. Even after Olivia passed away, Yvette Nipar wrote a memorial to her, saying, “My darling friend—I shall mourn you forever.” She shared a photo of herself and Olivia that she had first shared in 2019 and added this caption.
Chance was the name of the son Patrick and Nipar had together after two years of marriage. In 2012, Nipar lobbied Jeff Bezos, the CEO of Amazon, to stop marketing a book that claimed Patrick was still alive. Nipar addressed the millionaire about the “well-known serial liar” Philip Klein for his book titled “Lost at Sea,” saying, “My son has been through enough emotional pain over this.” Former actress Nipar has posted on social media that she is reportedly writing a book called “What Are The Chances?” about the incident.
