Blackout, a Decepticon, travels to a United States military installation in Qatar in the present day with the intention of discovering where Megatron and the AllSpark are hidden.

Back in the United States, Sam Witwicky, the descendent of Captain Witwicky, purchases his first car, which turns out to be the Autobot scout Bumblebee and assists him in wooing the girl he has a crush on, Mikaela Banes.
When Sam later signals the other Autobots, he gets a glimpse of Bumblebee’s actual form for the first time.

Bumblebee comes to Sam’s aid and reveals the existence of the Transformers to Mikaela at the same time. While Sam loses his pants and Mikaela severes Frenzy’s head, Bumblebee is able to defeat Barricade and put him under control, but Frenzy is still able to live.
In the meantime, Scorponok, who was dispatched by Blackout, attacks Captain Lennox and his squad, ultimately leading to the death of one of them and injuring another.
Scorponok is hurt by sabot rounds that are dropped by the Air Force on him while the combat is in progress, which causes him to be forced to escape.
Soon after, Sam and Mikaela are introduced to Optimus Prime, as well as his other Autobot companions Jazz, Ironhide, and Ratchet.
