We do things like seven-on-seven or pass skelly. It’s one of my favorites because we get to throw the ball, we can’t pass it off, and there’s no defensive line coming at us. So you can read and throw without feeling any pressure, which is always a nice thing to do.

My dad taught me how to play when I was a kid. When I became quarterback in eighth grade, he was my first offensive coordinator. He probably helped me become the football player I am today more than anyone else.
What’s the funniest thing you’ve ever seen on a football field?
At the time, it wasn’t so funny because it happened in the middle of a game. But when I was in college, I was standing right next to my running back behind the center waiting for the snap. He just started throwing up, even though he was about to help protect the pass. I couldn’t help but think, “This isn’t going to go well.” That is one of the funniest things I’ve seen, and it happens a lot more often than you might think.
What historical event would you have liked to be there for?
I like history a lot, so the Spartan War with King Leonidas is the first one that comes to mind. I wouldn’t want the same thing to happen to me as they did, but I would want to be there to see what happened.

The Calgary Stampeders
In March 2017, Arbuckle signed a deal to play for the Calgary Stampeders.
He quickly became the second quarterback for the Stampeders, after Bo Levi Mitchell. Arbuckle didn’t play much in 2018, but when he did, he completed 17 of 25 passes for 144 yards and one touchdown. As a short-yardage quarterback, he also ran for 5 touchdowns. After Bo Levi Mitchell left with a shoulder injury in Week 3 of the 2019 season, Arbuckle led the Stampeders to an unlikely come-from-behind win. Mitchell was then put on injured reserve for six games, making Arbuckle the starting quarterback in the meantime. Ottawa Redblacks
Arbuckle was traded to the Ottawa Redblacks on January 3, 2020. The Redblacks got a third-round pick and a possible second pick in the 2020 CFL Draft in exchange. After a lot of back-and-forth, he signed a two-year deal with Ottawa on January 31, 2020. This started the conditional draft pick trade that led to Calgary and Ottawa swapping first-round picks in the 2020 draft. A few hours after being let go by the Toronto Argonauts on January 31, 2021, veteran quarterback Matt Nichols signed with the Ottawa Redblacks. The Redblacks then let go of Arbuckle.
Toronto Argonauts
It was announced on February 1, 2021, that Arbuckle had joined the Toronto Argonauts. In week 3 of the 2021 season, he made his first start for the Argonauts. On August 21, 2021, he completed 23 of 32 passes for 310 yards and one touchdown in a win against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Edmonton Elks

The Elks announced on November 1, 2021, that they had signed Arbuckle to a new contract that would last through the 2022 season. The Elks and Arbuckle had a rough start to the 2022 season. Ottawa got Arbuckle so that he could compete with Caleb Evans for the starting job while Jeremiah Masoli healed from a leg injury. Caleb Evans started the first five games after Nick Arbuckle came to Ottawa.
