E! says that Lea Michele will play Fanny Brice now that Beanie Feldstein is stepping down from the role in July.
Beanie wrote on Instagram that she was leaving the show because of problems with production and direction. Her first contract said that it would end in September.
A few hours after Beanie’s post, the Funny Girl production team and Lea herself announced on her Instagram that she would be joining the cast as the new Fanny Brice.
She will be joined by actress Tovah Feldshuh, who will play Mrs. Brice
Beanie was chosen to play Fanny Brice for a year in a revival. Barbra Streisand played Fanny Brice in the original Broadway show and in the 1968 movie.
