LAS VEGAS, NEVADA:

The National Weather Service issued a flood advisory warning on Thursday, August 11 evening, alerting citizens to the possibility of significant rainfall, floods, and frequent lightning. Soon after, Twitter users started to appear on the site with pictures and videos of water gushing into casinos, flooding blackjack tables, and other terrifying scenes occurring in the centre of Nevada City.

According to the National Weather Service, Las Vegas received 0.58 inches of rain on Thursday, bringing the season’s total for the city to 1.28 inches. What a storm, declared the weather service. Exactly two weeks after Twitter users released videos of another flood that left quite a bit of harm along Las Vegas Boulevard, news of a second flood broke.

Flooding occurred in Las Vegas on Thursday night as a result of the wettest monsoon season in ten years, which is helping to end the chronic drought in the West but also causing substantial damage.

Water can be seen accumulating on the floor after it broke and flowed through a screen at the Circa Resort and Casino in newly posted videos. More videos showing related events occurring all around Nevada have surfaced. A second video that was shared on Twitter shows water pouring through Caesars Palace’s security screen. The LINQ Hotel’s parking garage was also seen to have water damage. The Planet Hollywood Casino suffered damage as a result of flooding after water entered through the ceiling.

After the storm passed, people in Las Vegas reported witnessing “curtains of rain” when they peered out their windows. Throughout the storm, there was allegedly continual lightning, and the power was shut off multiple times. According to Alexander Wolf, a resident of Las Vegas, “electric surges triggered the fire alarms of many buildings, forcing fire fighters to head out into the storm to respond to them.”

On Thursday night, a rare rainstorm slammed downtown Las Vegas, one of the driest cities in the US, causing flash flood warnings.

Tim Szymanski, the information officer for Las Vegas Fire, told The Post that they had not yet received any reports of injuries caused by the water. The flood appears to have nonetheless significantly damaged property.

We have adequate drainage systems, but occasionally the water simply overwhelms them, according to Simon Jowitt, an economic geologist and professor at the University of Las Vegas, who spoke to The Post. Additionally, it might be risky for the homeless, who occasionally take up residence in the drainage systems.” “The second point is that we don’t have rain often so it’s hard to evaluate whether roofs and the such are genuinely waterproof,” he continued, “which is presumably what happened in the casinos tonight.”
