She started working for Reuters Television in Africa in 1992, mostly as a senior producer. Logan informed CNN that Hastings’ reporting had broken an unwritten rule among journalists who accompany military personnel on their travels not to record insignificant conversations that take place between them.

Using what she said, “In other words, is what General McChrystal and his staff are doing truly so terrible that they merited ending a career like McChrystal’s? Michael Hastings hasn’t exactly given his country the kind of service McChrystal has.” What they did was definitely reprehensible, according to Jamie McIntyre, a former top military correspondent for CNN, and her remarks “sadly reinforced the worst caricature of reporters who ’embed’ with senior military officials but are actually ‘in bed’ with them.” He continued by quoting Admiral Mike Mullen as saying that military people have to be impartial and refrain from criticising civilian authorities.

In a Salon article on the incident, Glenn Greenwald stated that Logan’s segment was an illustration of what journalism has “degenerated into.” Despite doing brave reporting over the years, Logan had developed a sense of belonging to the government and military, according to Greenwald.
