He was approached by a Tennessee Highway Patrol officer who expressed an interest in helping him. The trooper sought to communicate with Eastep via radio transmissions. The trooper felt everything would be alright until Eastep pulled out a box cutter and escalated the situation. Meanwhile, a passing Mt. Juliet off-duty police became aware of what was going on and rushed to the scene to help.
