He was born into a very wealthy, upper-class Christian family in Fort Worth, Texas, in the United States, where he also spent his childhood. During the tour that supported Jagged Little Pill and Alanis Morissette’s Can’t Not tour, Hawkins played the role of Alanis Morissette’s drummer from June 1995 until March 1997. In the music videos for the songs “You Oughta Know,” “All I Really Want,” and “You Learn,” he made an appearance. Additionally, he was featured on Morissette’s VHS and DVD live performance of Jagged Little Pill (1997).

In 2018, Hawkins was heard performing during a Foo Fighters concert.
After spending the spring of 1996 on the road, Foo Fighters checked into a recording studio in Seattle with producer Gil Norton to begin work on their second studio album.
According to reports, Dave Grohl and drummer William Goldsmith got into an argument while they were recording, which ultimately led to Goldsmith quitting the band. After reuniting in Los Angeles, the band essentially started the album’s recording process over again with Grohl playing drums. On May 20, 1997, the album titled “The Colour and the Shape” was made available for purchase. Grohl placed a call to Hawkins, a person with whom he was familiar at the time, in order to inquire about the recommendations he had for a new drummer to join the band. Grohl was under the impression that Hawkins would not leave Morissette’s touring band due to the fact that she was a bigger act than the Foo Fighters were at the time.
Grohl was taken aback when Hawkins offered to join the band himself and explained that he preferred to play drums for a rock band rather than a solo act. This news came as a complete surprise to Grohl. On March 18, 1997, the band made the announcement that Hawkins would be taking over the drumming duties. Hawkins made his debut with the Foo Fighters in the music video for their single “Monkey Wrench” in 1997. Despite the fact that the song had been recorded before Hawkins joined the band, the video featured his first performance with the group.
In addition to playing drums with the Foo Fighters, Taylor Hawkins has contributed vocals, guitar, and piano to a variety of recordings in addition to his work with the band. On a cover version of Pink Floyd’s “Have a Cigar,” he provided the lead vocal performance. He was also a contributor to the band’s songwriting, and since There Is Nothing Left to Lose, he has been credited as a co-writer on every album the band has released.
On March 20, 2022, Hawkins gave his last performance with the Foo Fighters before passing away. The performance took place at the Lollapalooza festival in Argentina.
