HOUSTON, TEXAS: On February 5, 2022, Sgt. Kendrick Simpo received a call concerning a man with a weapon while working his second job as a security guard at the Galleria Mall in Houston’s Uptown District. A possible threat, an armed man, was seen close to Macy’s. Simpo and another security guard hurriedly went in the direction of the store, taking care not to frighten any of the hundreds of kids who were present for a dance competition. The officer took immediate action, detained the suspect, and stopped the suspected mass shooting that may have killed the kids as well.
This is the first time the brave cop has chosen to discuss the incident since it happened in February. Sgt. Simpo stated, “I absolutely know what I signed up for when I entered into this career 20 years ago,” when speaking to ABC 13. He remembered the incident’s day, “I didn’t pull my gun because I didn’t want to dash towards the Macy’s area, which is past the ballroom area, with the gun out and surprise anyone, even though I was aware that there was a dance competition with young children taking place in the Westin Ballroom. I was aware that I was largely outnumbered if someone did have a rifle inside the mall because at the moment, the only weapon I had was a handgun. I was already at a disadvantage due to my handgun and his rifle.” Simpo then observed the suspect less than 10 feet from the Westin Ballroom’s door, where the shooting was supposedly intended to occur.
Simpo, who was able to press Guido Herrera against the wall with the gun pointed skyward, was in charge of getting him into custody. The cops swiftly arrived to assist and removed Herrera. The accused mass shooting suspect, according to the police, was in possession of a handgun, a rifle, a Bible marked with the Old Testament verse about Sodom and Gomora, 120 rounds of ammo, and a rifle. Herrera was wearing a black Punisher shirt, tactical leggings, gloves, and a leather mask with spikes when he was taken into custody by the authorities. Nevertheless, since he didn’t shoot anyone, he did not break the law in Texas. Simpo thwarted an assault that, given the quantity of ammunition Herrera possessed, may have killed hundreds of people.

Sgt. Kendrick Simpo is a little-known police officer who has served the Houston Police Department for 14 years and is currently a victim services officer, according to the Houston Chronicle. Simpo described how he confronted the suspect brandishing a firearm, “I instantly tackled him while bum-rushing and my first thought was to make sure I had a hold of the rifle. Whatever I grabbed, I had to be sure to acquire that firearm. I had it in my head that I would get shot, and I would simply have to put up with the discomfort. I was thinking, “Whatever I do, I cannot let go of this weapon,” even though I knew it would hurt.”
Suspect Guido Herrera was detained once more just a month after his initial capture when he stormed the FBI’s Houston headquarters and sought to speak with the director of the agency. Later, after growing suspicious, the authorities discovered a pistol in his car. He was only charged with two misdemeanours for both occurrences, disorderly conduct and unauthorised carrying of a weapon. The Houston Chronicle quoted Herrera’s attorney Armen Mejanian as saying, “He has a right to possess these weapons whether we like them or not.”
