Joanne Pedersen, a young girl, was last seen in the vicinity of her home in Vedder Crossing in Chilliwack, British Columbia, on February 19, 1983. Her disappearance has never been satisfactorily explained.
The last time anyone saw her, she was at the Penny Pincher Store in the Vedder Crossing district of Chilliwack, British Columbia, which is situated in close proximity to the intersection of Vedder Road and Watson Road.

After a brief argument with her sister, Joanne Marie Pedersen, who was 11 at the time, Joanne Marie Pedersen left without a trace from their home. When the argument took place, the girls and their cousin, who is 14 years old, were on their way back home from the shopping centre. The presence of Joanne’s mother and stepfather was confirmed in a Legion hall located nearby.
Joanne was locked out of the house as a practical joke played on her by her sister and cousin, who had run ahead. Joanne made many attempts to enter. Even though it was freezing outside and pouring rain, she braved the elements and went to a convenience store in the area to phone her parents. When Joanne’s sister finally unlocked the door, she found that she had already left the house.
When Joanne arrived at the shop, the employee was already engaged with a number of other customers. Joanne stepped outside in order to use a public pay phone. She first phoned the phone operator at the Legion, and then she called her stepfather, who made arrangements for her to be brought up. When he arrived at the store a half an hour later, she was nowhere to be found.

It was reported that witnesses saw a man standing close to Pedersen, which is the location where the call originated. The unidentified male was said to be between the ages of 20 and 30, between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 7 inches tall, with a slim to medium physique, hair that was light to black and covering his ears, being clean-shaven, and wearing a dark jacket. He was also said to be wearing a dark jacket.
A domestic car with two doors and a dark Landau roof, which the witnesses said belonged to the man and was either white or cream in colour, was described in detail by the witnesses who saw it. Upper Fraser Valley police believe it is possible that the individual initially tried to assist Pedersen by pleading with him to come forward and cooperate with investigators. Despite the fact that the individual has been linked to the crime as a suspect, they believe it is possible that the individual attempted to assist Pedersen.
In 2008, Joanne’s mother made a sincere appeal to the authorities, pleading with them to find the individual who had been seen together with her daughter shortly before she vanished. Since 2008, an individual who asserts that he witnessed what took place immediately prior to Pedersen’s disappearance has sent three letters of his own accord to the Chilliwack RCMP.
Even though his identity is being looked into, the man in question is being asked to come forward with an explanation because the investigation into this crime has not been closed as of yet.

The last time anyone saw her, she was wearing a pink sleeveless jacket, leggings of a tan tone, and a blue sweater layered over a yellow T-shirt.
After she was reported missing, an intensive search was immediately begun in the area. Alongside members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, personnel from the neighbouring CFB Chilliwack and Chilliwack Search & Rescue were also involved. Even a reward of one thousand dollars was being offered by the Chilliwack Progress for information leading to the location of the missing girl.
