Jennifer Aniston mocked celebrities who make a name for themselves by doing nothing.
Backlash follows Jennifer Aniston’s comments on celebrities who “get famous for basically doing nothing,” including Paris Hilton and Monica Lewinsky.
During an appearance on Variety’s Actor on Actor, the 53-year-old Friends star discussed how the “internet produced a new attitude about individuals being famous” with Sebastian Stan.
Aniston talked about net custom at the time of the Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee Jones intercourse tape release.
“It was just around the time when the internet was really helping to develop a new culture about people being famous,” she explained. “It’s this thing where people get renowned for doing nothing. I’m talking about Paris Hilton, Monica Lewinsky, and the rest.”
Hilton’s intercourse tape with her ex-boyfriend Rick Salomon was leaked on the internet in 2004, while former US president Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky were involved in an intercourse scandal in 1998.
“I often say I consider myself fortunate that we got a taste of the industry before it became what it is today, which is just different — more streaming services, more people,” Aniston added. “You’re well-known on TikTok.” You’re well-known on YouTube. You’re well-known on Instagram.
“It’s almost as though it’s diluting the role of our actor.”
Following her response, many people began criticizing the We’re The Millers actress, claiming she was brought up through “nepotism.”
“Paris Hilton, Jennifer Aniston herself is a nepotism baby… please,” one Twitter user commented. “Most of the superstars back then were nepotism kids and now are nepotism babies… please.”
