James Murray: Who is He? Chief Security Officer at Snapchat will be a former US Secret Service director
James Murray, the departing director of the US Secret Service, has been hired by Snap, the parent company of Snapchat, to serve as the organization’s chief security officer. Murray will work for Snapchat once his contract with the government organization expires on July 30.
He will answer directly to Evan Spiegel, co-founder and CEO of Snapchat. Murray will be in charge of ensuring the security and safety of more than 5,000 workers, and if necessary, he will cooperate with law authorities.
According to a DHS official, U.S. Secret Service Director James Murray is leaving the organization to join Snapchat.
It was announced earlier this week that Murray was moving to the private sector and joining the parent firm of Snapchat. The Secret Service had just announced the long-time protection service employee’s resignation from the White House when the story broke.
Snap representative Pete Boogaard issued the following statement:
Jim Murray will be joining our team on August 1 and we couldn’t be happier to have him on board at Snap. In this new position, Jim will offer a wealth of knowledge that will help to ensure the security and safety of the more than 5,000 Snap workers who live and work all over the world. As James Murray joins Snapchat as Chief Security Officer, his professional trajectory is examined.
Murray, who spent 27 years working for the Secret Services and was director from May 2019, will join Snapchat. The agency has oversaw the recovery of about $4.2 billion in fraud loss during his time as director. Additionally, they have stopped an estimated $ 8.1 billion in additional losses due to illicit activity.
In 1990, Murray started working for the government as an investigator for the Department of Transportation while also serving as an officer in the U.S. Army Reserve.
He became a special agent for the Secret Service in the New York Field Office in 1995. He focused on financial crime enabled by cyberspace while serving as a liaison between the organization and the FBI-NYPD Joint Terrorism Task Force.
The Secret Service commended Murray for overcoming the particular difficulties posed by the Covid-19 outbreak in a statement to the media. Murray was commended for completing a “integrated objective of protecting senior elected leaders and investigating frauds aimed against our financial infrastructure.”

The official received praise and appreciation from U.S. President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden for his three decades of service to the administration. It was said:

The agency’s primary responsibility is to safeguard the lives of presidents, the members of their families, and other high government officials. Secret Service personnel, however, have lately been sent in to look into former US President Donald Trump’s role in sparking disturbances at the US Capitol.
Murray is hardly the first Secret Services director to move into a non-public position in a media company.
Joseph Clancy, a former Secret Service director who served in the Obama administration, returned to Comcast in 2017 as its vice president and chief security officer. Clancy, who has been in the position for a healthy 27 years, was once Comcast’s director of corporate security.
