Marco Verratti, a midfielder for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), has defended Kylian Mbappe’s behavior during the team’s 5-2 win over Montpellier on August 14.
The French forward was angry that the ball wasn’t given to him. He even tried to take a penalty from Neymar Jr., but Lionel Messi scored the goal.
Even though some people have said that Mbappe’s behavior is bad for the team, his teammate Verratti has defended the attacker’s actions. He said (and Le Parisien wrote it down):
“Kylian is always trying to do well as a player. I think he was sulking a little bit because he missed the penalty, but that’s normal. He’s a great player who always wants to make a difference, so when he misses something, it’s normal for him to be upset.
“But then he showed it when he scored the first goal and was decisive, and again when he scored another goal. But I like it when he gets angry because it shows that he cares a lot about this team, that he wants to do well, and that he wants to make a difference.”
Mbappe did score in the end, but the way he treated the rest of his team has been in the news and will likely be talked about.
Neymar, Lionel Messi, and Kylian Mbappe might be hard for PSG to put on the same team.
World-class players can often change a game on their own. They are the teams’ “X-Factors” because they can help them win even when it seems impossible.
Lionel Messi, Neymar Jr., and Kylian Mbappe are all good enough for PSG to do that. On paper, they look like a triple threat that any opponent would have to deal with. But it might be harder to deal with players who have such big personalities.
Their attitudes and egos are part of what makes them the best in the business, and they are not likely to make room for other alphas in their squad. This season, PSG’s success might depend more on how they handle their team spirit than on how well they play against their opponents.
