Chris’s career in the NFL started in 2005, when the Dallas Cowboys picked him in the fourth round of the NFL Draft. He fell because of a knee injury he got as a senior and a detached retina in his left eye that happened in the spring before the draft. Before his senior season, he was likely to be picked in the first round of the draft.
To move on, the Cowboys gave the Philadelphia Eagles their 2005 fifth-round pick and their 2006 fourth-round pick. Canty and the Cowboys made a deal for a $1.3 million, three-year deal. Canty played in the San Diego Chargers’ first game of the season. He made his first NFL tackle and put pressure on the quarterback.
He got his first sack of his career in the third quarter against the Washington Redskins when he tackled Mark Brunell. He took Ellis’s place at right end against the New York Giants, which was his first start in the NFL. He finished the game with four tackles. Later, he started again against the Kansas City Chiefs. Even though he sprained his ankle during the game, he had the most tackles of any defensive lineman with five.
In the last game of the season, against the St. Louis Rams, Canty had the most tackles and tackles for a loss of any defensive lineman. Canty had Canty & Golic Jr. at the same time on ESPN Radio. Canty co-hosted the ESPN New York 98.7 FM radio show “DiPietro, Canty, & Rothenberg” with former New York Islanders goalie Rick DiPietro and Dave Rothenberg before he started his national show.
He works part-time for ESPN Radio as a color commentator for NFL games. Fans of the NFL talked about him again because the former player’s predictions about the scores and how the players would do this season have been right. He has hit almost every defense with an accuracy of more than 80%.

Canty missed three games because of an injury in 2002, but he still started eight of the 11 games and had 86 tackles, four tackles for losses, four pass deflections, three quarterback pressures, three fumble recoveries, and two sacks.

In 2003, Canty was named second-team All-ACC, Lineman of the Year in Virginia, and won the Ned McDonald Award as UVA’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player after making a career-high 104 tackles, 12 tackles for losses, 12 pressures, and 4 sacks. He became only the second defensive lineman in school history to make more than 100 tackles in a season. He also got All-ACC Academic honors because of how well he did in school.
Senior (2004)
In 2004, he got his bachelor’s degree in African American studies in May. During his last year of college, he took graduate courses in secondary education. Canty’s season ended early when he tore the ACL, MCL, and PCL in his left knee in the fourth game of the season. He had 30 tackles, seven tackles for losses, a sack, and a forced fumble at the time.
Eye injury
Canty hurt his eye badly in late January 2005 at a nightclub in Scottsdale, Arizona. Canty said he was just a bystander during a fight, but it seems he was hit in the left eye with a glass bottle, causing a detached retina that had to be fixed right away.
