It has been alleged that a senator from Nigeria intended to transport a child to the United Kingdom so that his organs might be removed for medical research.

Ike Ekweremadu, a former Deputy Senate President of Nigeria, and his wife, Beatrice Nwanneka, made an appearance at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court in west London earlier on Thursday.

The accused victim, who is 15 years old, is now living in a foster home. The Metropolitan Police stated that various organizations were actively working to assist him.

Who Is Ike Ekweremadu?

Ike Ekweremadu, a politician who is now 60 years old, has served in Nigeria’s Senate during the past 19 years. In addition to that, he is a member of the People’s Democratic Party.

Chief Ekweremandu is of Igbo heritage and was born in the town of Amachara Mpu, which is located in the Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State. In addition to that, he holds a PhD in law, which he earned from the University of Abuja in Nigeria.

In 1997, he was given the position of Executive Chairman of the Aninri Local Government Council, which he had won on the platform of the United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP). In the same year, he was also recognized as having been the Most Outstanding Council Chairman of the Year.

Ike was given the job of serving as the chief of staff for the governor of Enugu State in 1999, and he remained in that role until the end of his tenure in 2001. After that, he was appointed to the position of Secretary within the Enugu State Government.

He served in that capacity for the Senate for a total of three terms between the years 2007 and 2019. Recent developments include him being granted a position as a visiting lecturer at the University of Lincoln.

According to a statement released by the authorities, a Nigerian husband and wife have been charged by the London Metropolitan Police with arranging to transfer a child to the United Kingdom for the purpose of harvesting organs from the kid.

55-year-old Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu is accused of engaging in a conspiracy with the objective of facilitating the journey of another individual for the purpose of exploitation, more especially the harvesting of organs.

After receiving information regarding possible violations involving modern-day slavery, the authorities opened an investigation using the Specialist Crime Team of the Metropolitan Police Department.

Organ harvesting refers to the practice of removing organs or other body parts from a living person without their will and typically for financial gain.

The authorities stated that “A child has been secured, and we are working closely with partners on subsequent care,” although they did not mention the gender of the child in their statement.
