Greenville native Austin Shirley lost his life when his Jeep drifted off the road and struck a tree while he was attempting to elude the police. The incident took place on May 26, 2022.
The Greenwood County Coroner’s Office claims that Shirley was driving north on Highway 25 at a high rate of speed when he crossed into the southbound lane, went off the road to the left, and hit a tree.
How did Austin Shirley fare?
Austin Shirley, 28, was killed in a car accident on Highway 25 North, just after 10 p.m. on May 26, 2022, just outside the municipal limits of Ware Shoals. He was attempting to avoid police while fleeing from troopers at a high rate of speed when he crashed into a tree and died instantaneously.
Austin was traveling with Eddie Raines, who is a living accident survivor. But the word “accident” used here runs counter to what Eddie Raines said. Eddie agreed that Austin was wrong to run, but claimed that instead of going to check on them that evening, the police breached other laws.
Austin perished in an automobile accident while evading law enforcement.
Before calling, “Come out with your hands up!” to the burning automobile, the cops stood in the median and looked at the police car first. Eddie goes on to claim that the police reports were made up. Austin’s sister Kaytlin sent a tribute in memory of her late brother on Facebook on July 27, 2022.

After that, Kaytlin began writing and expressing how devastated she had been since Austin’s passing “Words are inadequate to express how hurt I am that you are no longer present. I’ve wondered a lot about why you had to leave this world, but now that I think about it, you’re not in pain anymore. I’m confident that you are reuniting with the loved ones who passed away so suddenly in a joyful afterlife.”
She expressed her love for Austin as she ended the post “BUBBA, you are loved and will never be forgotten. My little brother, soar high.”
Cause of Austin Shirley’s Death and Discussions on Social Media
While evading the troopers, Austin Shirley perished in an automobile accident. Autin’s sister believes there is another reason, despite the police’s best efforts to explain that he struck them.
The sister of Austin Shirley (Bubba), Kaytlin, alleges on the Facebook page “Justice for Austin Shirley (Bubba)” that Honea Path police were pursuing Austin at 100 mph while he was outside of their purview. She claims that the cops were required by law to yield but did not. The cops had hit her brother three times that evening while it was storming outside, she continued, and after the fourth strike, Austin lost control, crashed into a tree, and succumbed to blunt force injuries.
