Holly here. In addition to acting, singing, writing, directing, and coaching movements, I also teach yoga and the Alexander Technique. I am a Canadian cis queer femme lesbian who grew up in a little village outside of Edmonton (Amiskwaciwâskahikan), but I now call Toronto (Tkaronto) and New York City (Lenapehoking) home. Ever since I was 13 and fell in love with Barbra Streisand, I have always wanted to live there. I identify as a gender-fluid cis woman who often presents as femme of center and utilize both she and them pronouns. My forefathers are white and European; they are Irish, Danish, and Norwegian. Today, thankfully replacing type, identity is becoming more and more important to our job as performers and artists.

Being aware of my whiteness, cisness, and queerness but also being visible in those identities is vital to me rather than just disregarding them. As an actor, I take pleasure in portraying many cis white women from various origins, sexual orientations, and worldviews. But I’m also really concerned about the visibility of femme lesbians and portraying my own identity in a complex, authentic way. In my little midwestern town, there were societal assumptions about lesbians that I didn’t fit into growing up. I also didn’t have access to any out queer people that I knew of, which dragged down my process of coming out as queer. I’m very happy that representation and authenticity are starting to be prioritized throughout the casting process, and that a range of identities are beginning to be displayed and normalized in mainstream media. I’m glad to be out and in the open, and I’m open to discussions regarding my identity, my audience, my boundaries, and the current topics I’m most enthusiastic about sharing.

I am a learner, traveler, and listener at my core. I enjoy slowing down, talking to new people, and observing people. I have a good command of Spanish and Italian and spoke excellent French as a child. I enjoy picking up new dialects since they help me to better understand expression and tone.
