Recap of Halo Episode 2

First, a flashback to John’s childhood shows up in the second episode, called “Unbound.” To escape the UNSC with a friend named Soren, John trained as a Spartan II. At the last minute, John let Soren go and tried to get him to stay in Spartan-II. Soren, on the other hand, wanted to leave the planet in search of freedom, so he left. John, on the other hand, gave his friend a head start. In the present, John and Kwan are travelling through space, away from the UNSC, as they make their way through space.

On the planet Reach, Dr. Catherine Elizabeth Halsey talks with Fleet Admiral Hood. They talk about the situation with Master Chief John. Hood thinks that John should be brought back, but he could be punished for not doing his job. Halsey sends the Silver Squad to find John and bring him home. Miranda is trying to get Admiral Margaret Parangosky to let her look at the alien artefact instead of Halsey if the UNSC gets back the artefact. However, Parangosky turns down her request.

At the Covenant Headquarters of High Charity, the council talks about the “keystone” artefact and thinks about how to get it back. Makee, a human with a connection to the keystones, wants to get the artefact back for herself, but the council says it’s too risky for her to do so. Makee, on the other hand, convinces the council and gets ready to find the artefact. As John and Kwan navigate through a band of asteroids, they arrive at a settlement known as Rubble, which is not part of the UNSC. John meets up with Soren and his family.

With the help of Soren, John meets Reth, a local man who spent time on a Covenant ship and knows a lot about their way of life. John wants to find out more about the artefact from Reth, and he wants to do this. Reth says that John is sensitive to the artefact in a way that most people aren’t able to be. Also, he says that the artefact is an ancient alien device that can kill all of the life in the world. After a fight with Reth, John thinks about what to do with the artefact. Halsey asks the UNSC council to let the Cortana Program go, saying that it will help them fight back against the Covenant, and they will be able to use it.

Episode 2: Where does Master Chief go?

He realises that he has to protect the artefact and keep it out of the Covenant’s hands after he does not do his job. Another reason is that the artefact can help humans fight back against the Covenant. Because of this, John decides to give the device back to the United Nations Space Service. John thinks that the UNSC has the resources to look into the device even more and use it against the Covenant, so he thinks that they can do that. Because of Reth’s warnings, John’s decision is understandable.

So, at the end of the episode, John gives Kwan’s safety to Soren and goes back to Planet Reach. Halsey and the UNSC are going to be in charge of John’s fate at the end of the story. However, Halsey says that the UNSC isn’t sure if John can be trusted. For the UNSC, John’s dependability makes him a valuable asset. In light of John’s recent actions, he may have to answer to the public. Halsey, on the other hand, has other plans for John.

Cortana is the sum of all the knowledge that humans have. Halsey wakes up the AI. People in the Spartan-II programme will be able to use Cortana to improve their mental abilities. Thus, Cortana will let the UNSC and Halsey have complete control over the minds of the Spartans, so this is how it will work out. When John thinks about the greater good, it looks like he has effectively given up his freedom and doomed himself. John, on the other hand, is at the heart of the cosmic events that took place after he found the artefact. Whether the UNSC recognises this is still up in the air.
