Christopher Paul “Chris” Schurr is a white police officer that works in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Here are some more interesting facts about him:

He was born in the town of Byron Center in the state of Michigan.
He was a member of the Corinth Reform Church in Byron Center, an evangelical church.
His father worked for a trucking company, while his mother worked for a mortgage company as a legal assistant. His parents split while he was a teenager, and he and his younger sister were shared between them.
He received his diploma from Byron Center High School in Byron Center in 2009. Brandey Lynn Bruin Schurr, his wife, and he were high school sweethearts.
He and Brandey went to Kenya in 2013. He was a Daktronics–National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) men’s track & field scholar-athlete in the same year. He trained at Grand Rapids Gymnastics in Grand Rapids from 2013 to 2014. At the 2014 Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Awards, he was voted Outstanding Performer.
He and Brandey got engaged in May 2014. In the same month, he won a gold medal in the NAIA Outdoor National Track and Field Championships at the Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium in Gulf Shores, Alabama, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in accounting with a minor in criminal justice from Siena Heights University in Adrian, Michigan. During his time at university, he competed as a pole vaulter.
Pastor Odero Elisha hosted him and Brandey at Kawiti, Homa Bay, Kenya, in July 2014. Their wedding was officiated by the preacher. In the village, the couple and others met people, played with orphans, and built cottages for widows.
He joined the Grand Rapids Police Department in 2015.
As a Grand Rapids Police Department officer, he earned $89,454 in 2020.
He fatally shot Congolese refugee Patrick Lyoya in Grand Rapids on April 4, 2022. He was placed on paid leave and had his police powers taken away by the Grand Rapids Police Department.
