Her parents, Bill and Sandra Sinclair, instilled a love of athletics in her from a young age, and Christine grew up in a household where her mother competed in a number of sports during her time at college.

In a similar vein, her father was a soccer player who competed in the Pacific Coast Soccer League for the University of British Columbia and the New Westminster Blues.

Sinclair has chosen to pursue a career in soccer, much like both of her parents did before her. She now serves as captain for both the Canadian national team as well as the Portland Thorns FC of the NWSL.

Sinclair is a champion of CONCACAF and a recipient of the title for Canada’s Soccer Player of the Year a total of 14 times. Additionally, he has won two bronze medals and one gold medal at the Olympics.

Parents of Christine Sinclair

The name is Christine Sinclair. The parents’ names are Bill and Sandra.

In the city of Burnaby, in the province of British Columbia, Christine Sinclair was born to her parents, Bill (William) and Sandra Sinclair.

Her parents tied the knot in October 1976 and have been building a life together for more than four decades, during which time they have welcomed Michael and Christine into the world. They had a happy life together in Burnaby, North Vancouver, and New Westminster right up to the time that Bill passed away in 2016.

While playing for the New Westminster Blues of the Pacific Coast Soccer League and the University of British Columbia, her father, Bill Sinclair, was crowned the champion of the Canadian Amateur Soccer Championship in 1972. Bill Sinclair won the title.

Sandra was welcomed into the world at Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver on the 27th of October, 1950. Her parents, Reginald (Reg) and Margaret (Peg), were there to greet their new daughter.

Prior to beginning her employment at Vancouver Memorial Services and Crematorium, Sandra completed her education at Simon Fraser University. She subsequently worked at the Royal Bank.

She competed in a variety of sports, was elected the Honor Queen of Job’s Daughters, and went on to serve as the Soccer President of the South Burnaby Metro Club. Additionally, she managed teams for the Burnaby Girls Soccer Club and Cliff Avenue.

Sandra Lynn Sinclair, her mother, passed away at the age of 72.
Sandra Lynn (née Gant) Sinclair, Sinclair’s mother, passed away on February 2, 2022 at the Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster with her family at her side. She had been battling multiple sclerosis for more than four decades at the time of her passing.

The Vancouver Sun reports that she stayed at Buchanan Lodge for the final five years of her life, during which time she received excellent medical treatment from the facility’s great staff.

That was more than just a nursing facility; it was Mom’s or Grandma’s house, where she hosted Christmases, birthdays, frequent friend visits, and a variety of other wonderful occasions.

Additionally, she developed friendships with a number of the members of the staff, which led to weekly coffees and conversations about various sports and the staff members’ grandchildren.

Sinclair has a brother by the name of Mike (Michael) Sinclair, who, during his time in college, was also an avid baseball player.

Sinclair’s paternal great uncles, Brian and Bruce Gant, both played professionally for Canada in the sport of soccer before retiring. Sue and Brent are Sue and Brent’s siblings, and they belong to the Gant clan.

Her uncle Brian, who is now 70 years old, spent nine seasons playing in the North American Soccer League while also participating in fifteen games with the Canadian national team.

After participating in soccer at Simon Fraser University during his time as an undergraduate, Gant was offered a contract to play with the Vancouver Whitecaps of the North American Soccer League in the year 1974.

Before moving to Portland in 1977, he made his home in Vancouver for a total of three seasons. Before the Timbers folded in 1982, he played for them across a combined total of eight seasons for the outdoor and indoor teams.

Since 1990, Gant has been employed with FC Portland, a youth soccer club located in Portland, Oregon. In this capacity, Gant has coached young soccer. In recognition of his work as a coach at Catlin Gabel School in Portland, he received the District 1 Coach of the Year award in 2003.

Under Gant’s direction, the Catlin Gabel Eagles won the championship a record 13 consecutive years, beginning in 1994 and ending in 2004.

Her Uncle Bruce Gant Sinclair’s uncle, Bruce Gant, 66, is a former professional soccer player who spent five seasons in the North American Soccer League. Gant attended Simon Fraser University and was a part of the university’s men’s soccer team while he was a student there.

He was a member of the Clan’s 1976 First Team NAIA All-American squad, and in 1990, he was an instrumental part of the Vancouver Firefighters FC’s victory in the Challenge Trophy competition.

According to his Wikipedia page, he was a member of the Timbers for a total of six seasons, four outdoor and two indoor, before the team disbanded in 1982. In 1983, he was a member of the Montreal Manic and took part in one game.

At the Canada Games in 1973, Bruce was a member of the British Columbia team that won the gold medal. During the qualifying tournaments for the 1976 Summer Olympics, Bruce competed for Canada. Although he participated in eight exhibition matches against local teams, he was not selected to represent his country in any international competition.

Christine Sinclair’s Sports Career

Both baseball and basketball were very successful for Sinclair.

When Christine Sinclair was younger, she participated in and excelled at both baseball and basketball. During her time spent competing in a boys’ baseball league in Burnaby, she earned a spot on the community under-11 all-star team as a second baseman.

Sinclair was selected to play for the British Columbia under-14 girls’ all-star soccer squad when she was just 11 years old. In subsequent years, she was an integral part of the Burnaby Girls Soccer Club’s run of success, which included six league titles, five provincial titles, and two top-five finishes at the national level.

During the women’s international friendly Tournoi de France match between Canada and The Netherlands that took place on March 7, 2020 at Stade de l’Epopee in Calais, France, Christine Sinclair of Canada competed for her country.

She led the girls’ soccer team at Burnaby South Secondary School to three consecutive league titles while she was still a student there.

She played for Canada’s under-18 national team and scored three goals before making her debut for the senior team at the Algarve Cup in 2000 when she was only 16 years old.

A digital short documentary released in 2012 and titled “The Captain” focused on Sinclair as its subject. During the same year, she made a guest appearance on one of Rick Hansen’s episodes of The Difference Makers.

In May of 2015, she and the rest of the Canadian national team were featured in the TSN documentary “RISE,” which was broadcast on the network. She had a role in a television commercial for Coca-Cola that aired across the country in the summer of 2015.

On April 15, 2018, at Providence Park in Portland, Oregon, Christine Sinclair addressed the crowd in a celebration of the Portland Thorns’ championship win from the previous year. This victory came seconds before the Thorns defeated the Orlando Pride by a score of 2-1.

Sinclair, along with A&W and the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, formed a partnership in July 2017 with the goal of increasing people’s awareness of multiple sclerosis across the country.
