CCTV says that on Friday afternoon, a big fire broke out in a high-rise China Telecom office building in downtown Changsha, which is the capital of Hunan (Sep 16).

CCTV said that on Friday afternoon, September 16, a huge fire broke out in a high-rise China Telecom office building in downtown Changsha, the capital of China’s southern province of Hunan.

Later, a picture that was shared on social media was said to show that the fire was out and that rescue workers were spraying water over the burned front of the building.

China Telecom said in a post on social media that the fire at our No. 2 Communications Tower in Changsha was put out at 4:30 p.m. today. There has been no trouble with communication, and no one has been hurt yet.

A video that was shared on social media seemed to show hundreds of people running away from the building as burning debris fell from the top floors. AFP was not able to check the clip right away. Around 10 million people live in Changsha, which is the capital of Hunan.

CCTV says that the 218-meter (715-foot) building was finished in 2000 and is next to a major ring road.

People often die in fires in China, where building rules aren’t always followed and illegal building is common. This makes it hard for people to get out of burning buildings.

What did the state media say?

State media say that at least 15 people died and at least 25 were hurt in a warehouse fire in the northeastern province of Jilin in July of last year.

A month before, a fire at a martial arts school in northern Henan province killed 18 people, most of whom were children. This started a debate about fire safety rules.

In 2017, two fires in Beijing’s migrant neighborhoods killed another 24 people. In 2010, 58 people died in a huge fire that ripped through a 28-story housing complex in Shanghai.

In a later post on social media, the provincial fire department said, “At the moment, the fire is out and we haven’t found any dead bodies.”

CCTV took the first picture, which showed orange flames tearing through the building in a crowded part of the city while black smoke rose into the air.

The first case of monkeypox in China was found in the city of Chongqing in the country’s southwest. However, the local health authority said that the risk of the disease spreading to the rest of the city is very low.

The patient, whose age and gender have not been revealed, flew to Chongqing from another country, according to the city’s health commission. While they were in quarantine for Covid-19, they got sick and got a rash.

The monkeypox virus was found in the patient’s blood at both the Chongqing and the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention. On Friday, the diagnosis was confirmed by a group of experts from the central government.
According to the commission, the patient is being treated in isolation at a designated hospital and is in stable condition. All close contacts are being kept apart for medical observation, but it didn’t say much about them.

“Experts came to the conclusion that the patient had been put in quarantine when he or she arrived in Chongqing and had no record of having social interactions. “There isn’t much chance of an epidemic,” the statement said.

The commission told people coming from countries that had reported cases of monkeypox to keep an eye on their health and let the health authorities know if they had contact with patients. People who go to these countries should not share items with people who have monkeypox and should not get sexually involved with people who may have it.

Monkeypox is a virus that mostly affects the tropical rainforests of central and western Africa. The symptoms can last anywhere from two to four weeks.

It has been around for decades in those areas, but in early May, Britain was the first country to confirm cases of monkeypox. Other countries in Europe and the Americas soon followed.

WHO says that monkeypox is a global health emergency and raises its highest level of warning.

In July, the World Health Organization called the rapid spread of a disease that used to be common a public health emergency.

Since it started to spread, China has been on high alert for people who might have brought monkeypox into the country.

In June, the Chinese Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) told all cities to keep an eye out for symptoms, the most obvious of which is a rash, in travelers coming into the country, especially those who have been in a country where monkeypox cases have been reported in the last 21 days.

A month later, China’s customs office asked travelers who were coming into China and might have been exposed to monkeypox to come forward and say so.

People who come from countries where monkeypox has been reported have been told to follow sanitization steps if they think they are infected or have been exposed.

This year, the WHO has heard from 102 countries and territories about nearly 53,000 confirmed cases of monkeypox and 18 deaths.

The number of new cases reported around the world dropped by 25.5% in the week ending September 4, compared to the week before. The biggest drops were in the Americas and Europe.
