Cherie Gil: 59-year-old Filipino actress, died after battling with cancer
Actress Cherie Gil, often referred to as Evangeline Rose Gil Eigenmann, was from the Philippines. She earned the moniker La Primera Contravida for her acting prowess and commitment to Philippine cinema.
Gil had an almost 50-year career in Philippine cinema and is renowned as a legendary kontrabida.
She has received a FAMAS Award, the Ani ng Dangal (Harvest of Honor) Award from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, and the Best Supporting Actress Hall of Fame Award from the Metro Manila Film Festival.

She battled cancer for a long period in order to live the ideal life. Unfortunately, she passed away, shocking and saddening all of her fans and admirers.

Her father was a former actor and singer in the Philippines. Talent agents heard him singing a Sammy Davis tune. Later, when he was the lead singer for Eddie Mesa And The Trippers, he adopted his mother’s last name.
Although her mother is a Filipino singer and actor, she is best known for her roles as affluent socialites in plays.
