In 2017, Lyon went back to SEN to co-host the morning show with Tim Watson. Later that year, Lyon left the Nine Network after many years to work as a commentator and panelist on On The Couch for Fox Footy. Lyon began hosting both “On the Couch” and “Friday Night Football” for the station in 2022.
After the Melbourne Demons won their first flag in 57 years, Lyon had the honor of giving the 2021 AFL premiership cup to captain Max Gawn and coach Simon Goodwin in Perth.
Coaching
Lyon has tried his hand at coaching since he retired. He has been the coach of the Australian international rules football team since its first game in 2001. He was the coach for four seasons in a row before Kevin Sheedy took over. His record in International rules is 2 wins out of 4.
Many people thought he could be the next coach of the Melbourne Football Club, but Lyon decided not to go in that direction. In 2009, he was the coach for the Victorian under-16 team at the AFL championships.
