Victor Rozenstruik said, “For most of the battle, I looked for an opening but couldn’t find one. In the last round, though, I did. I wasn’t surprised by his plan. He is a skilled and smart fighter, but I was able to win.”

Biography

Overeem was born in Hounslow, England, to a Jamaican father and a Dutch mother. His family tree links him to King William III of the Netherlands. Overeem won two more Pride fights before entering the 2003 Pride Middleweight Grand Prix at Pride Total Elimination 2003. In the quarterfinals, he lost to Chuck Liddell, who would go on to win the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship. Overeem earned a spot in the PRIDE 2006 Openweight Grand Prix at Pride Total Elimination Absolute by beating Kharitonov. He fought Fabrcio Werdum, a Brazilian who is good at jiu-jitsu, and lost in the second round when Werdum put him in a kimura.
