In the first episode of season 3 of “Mob Psycho 100” or “Mob Psycho III,” called “Future Career Paths,” the students at Shio Junior High School are asked to think carefully about their plans for the future.
Even though Mob is doing his best, he feels like he has no idea what his future holds. Serizawa and Mob are very worried about their own futures when they are given an exorcism assignment to help a middle-aged man who has lived a life without goals and regrets it. Here’s what you need to know about how the first episode of “Mob Psycho III” ends.
Mob Psycho III Season 3 Episode 1
The students at Shio Junior High School have to think about what they want to do in the future, so Mob’s friends and classmates talk seriously about their plans. Most of them seem very sure of themselves because they have their lives planned out, but Mob is really lost. He goes to the Spirits and Such Consultations Office to talk with Reigen about the same problem.
Reigen thinks that Mob doesn’t have to think too much because being a psychic is already his true calling. Mob isn’t sure, though, because it’s just a part-time job. Even though Reigen tries to reassure him that Spirits and Such Consultations Office has a good chance of growing into something bigger in the future, Mob is not persuaded. Soon, a client comes to the office with an 80,000 yen doll he thinks is cursed because it has only brought him bad luck.
Reigen says that the client has nothing to worry about, but Mob tells him not to touch the doll because a long-standing grudge has poisoned it. When Reigen finds out this, he tells Serizawa that he was just testing him and gives him the job of getting rid of the doll. It’s interesting that the second person fixes the doll easily, but breaks one of the doll’s arms, which Reigen then fixes.
That night, Mob talks to his family about how he feels about his career choices. His father and brother agree with him, but his mother thinks their ideas are too simple. The next day, Serizawa, Mob, and Reigen go to the home of a middle-aged man who says he is cursed by a bad spirit that no psychic has been able to get rid of so far. He then says that the evil spirit got him fired from his part-time job because he touched a female coworker in an inappropriate way. It made his girlfriend leave him and gave him cavities.
The client is worried that he will keep living a meaningless life and never find his true calling or make real connections with other people. While Mob and Serizawa carefully listen, Reigen goes outside and sees a bad spirit growing right above the house. He goes straight back to his friends and tells them about it. Mob and Serizawa move quickly to get rid of the spirit, and the client thanks them for their help.
After they cast out the old man’s spirit, Serizawa looks very worried, so Reigen asks him if something is wrong. He says that the old man’s confessions really hit home, and he now feels like he is in the same boat as the old man. Reigen is quick to tell him that he won’t be able to stay in business for long if he keeps acting the same way. He then tells Serizawa that he hasn’t even lived half his life yet, so he still has a lot of time to become famous.
Reigen thinks it’s good that Serizawa has seen how his bad decisions hurt him so quickly. But Mob also says that the old man’s story touched him as well. After spending so much time thinking about his future career options, he is now very worried about the future. He admits that he hasn’t made any big mistakes yet, but he thinks that day will come at some point.
Later, Mob meets Reigen at the Spirits and Such Consultations Office and tells him that he doesn’t see Reigen working there in the future. He goes on to say that he’s too comfortable there, which will probably stop him from growing in the future. Mob doesn’t need to worry about his future right now, Reigen tells him. He is sure that Mob will find lots of things to do in the future, so he shouldn’t worry too much.
Mob is told by Reigen to remember that he started the Spirits and Such Consultations Office on a whim, but that he now plans to do it for the rest of his life. He ends his career advice to Mob by telling him that he doesn’t have to work in an office no matter what he wants to do in the future. But he could also just be living his own life and making money at the same time.
After waiting for years, Mob Psycho 100 is finally back. People think that this action-packed and beautifully animated anime series is one of the best, and Episode 1 of this new season shows that the high quality will continue.
The show is about a kind-hearted but shy middle school boy with psychic powers on the level of the end of the world. The first episode of this season goes back to the show’s simple roots, with Mob helping Reigen with his psychic business.
But the episode does a good job of building up tension for the rest of the season while still being as funny as usual. Before we go any further, a small spoiler alert for Mob Psycho 100!

Mob Psycho 100 goes back to what made it funny in the beginning
Let’s start at the beginning, or more accurately, the start. Mob Psycho 100 is known for its psychedelic opening credits. This season’s opening song, “1,” performed by Mob Choir, may not be as good as previous ones, but you should still watch it.
The new season takes place not long after the end of Season 2. In Season 2, there was a huge psychic fight that took place all over the city and ended with a huge broccoli growing in the middle of town. This first episode, though, puts that part to the side and starts with a simpler adventure between Mob, Reigen, and Serizawa, a new psychic who has just been hired.
The episode follows them as they go from job to job helping people who think demons have taken over their lives. It’s always funny how the show connects spiritual possession and bad luck in general. One client thinks that the statue he bought has brought him bad luck. It turns out that the statue is haunted, but he was also tricked into paying more than 10 times the price for it, which shows that he was already unlucky. The show stands out from other psychic-based shows because of these funny turns of events.
Of course, Reigen is the best part of the episode, as is usually the case. We get to see not one but two of his “special moves,” and the fact that he can still convince people that he’s a psychic is a bit that should have gotten old by now but somehow hasn’t.

What’s to come is hinted at in the new season
Reigen is also still the show’s heart because he gives Mob advice that is both heartfelt and funny.
The emotional turmoil of the episode, which comes from Mob not knowing what to do with his future as he is about to graduate middle school, cleverly ties into what seems to be the larger plot of the season: the fear of an uncertain future and how mistakes can change it. We can see this in one of the main gang’s clients, and we can also see it in Serizawa, who just joined Reigen’s team after leaving an evil group at the end of last season. As always, the series is able to explore its own themes by using its characters to their fullest.
Not only that, but this theme is also shown at the end of the episode, when several people in town look up at the broccoli with what can only be described as ominous awe. This will definitely become a problem for Mob and the rest of the gang in the future.
It may be too early to say for sure, but based on the first episode, it looks like Mob Psycho 100 will hit three home runs in a row, and we can’t wait to see what happens in the new season.
The Japanese anime series Mob Psycho 100 is based on One’s manga series of the same name. The anime version was made by Bones, and Yuzuru Tachikawa was in charge of it. The scripts were written by Hiroshi Seko, the characters were designed by Yoshimichi Kameda, and the music was written by Kenji Kawai. The show ran on Tokyo MX from July 12, 2016, to September 27, 2016. For Season 1, Mob Choir sang the opening theme song, called “99,” and ALL OFF sang the closing theme song, called “Refrain Boy.” The show was broadcast at the same time on both Crunchyroll and Funimation. Bang Zoom! Entertainment was in charge of making the English dub. On April 18, 2019, Funimation and Crunchyroll confirmed that season two will simuldub on April 25.
The anime show will have a second season, and the staff and cast will be back to play their roles. From January 7 to April 1, 2019, Mob Psycho 100 II aired on TV and on Crunchyroll at the same time.
Mob Psycho 100 III, the name of the third season, is already in the works. The first show was on October 6, 2022. The third season’s simuldub was supposed to be made by Crunchyroll instead of Bang Zoom!, and some roles were supposed to be changed. This was because Crunchyroll decided to move dub production to in-person recording sessions at their Dallas-based studio instead of remote recordings, which were mostly used before the COVID-19 pandemic. Mob’s voice actor, Kyle McCarley, said he probably wouldn’t be back in the role because Crunchyroll wouldn’t talk to his union, SAG-AFTRA, about a possible union contract for future anime dubbing productions. McCarley had offered to work non-union for season 3 as long as Crunchyroll talked with SAG-AFTRA. Since this didn’t happen, McCarley probably won’t come back. Because of this news, many people on social media were upset with Crunchyroll.
