In the season four finale of Stranger Things, while the Hawkins gang was getting ready to kill Vecna, Hopper, Joyce, and Murray devised a plan to weaken the Hive Mind on their end in Russia by luring the Demogorgons and Demodogs into a confined space within the prison. This was done so that the Demogorgons and Demodogs could be eliminated more easily.
After Hopper had succeeded in luring them in, Murray suddenly materialized in the sky with a flamethrower and set them ablaze. This was only one of the many heroic deeds that Murray performed throughout this season; he also showed off his karate talents.
