In Episode 6 of “Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty,” Paul Westhead was the center of attention for everyone. Jack McKinney, an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Lakers, died in a bike accident. The assistant coach took over for him. It didn’t matter that one of the more aggressive coaches was absent from the team because they won the series and the management hired Westhead as McKinney’s long-term replacement.
Pat Riley (Adrien Brody in the show) is the coach who led the team to four championships and was a big part of the creation of the “Showtime Lakers.” McKinney, on the other hand, built the foundation. Twitter was in fits when they saw Jason Segel play Westhead, who had a hard time dealing with McKinney’s accident and then taking on coaching responsibilities.
